Sizing for Dust Extractor vs cost of new bags

Bob,

Onieda had come out with a modification for the Ultimate Dust Deputy.  I have used my Dust Deputy (cheap version) at my own risk with no issues for more than a year and not paying any attention to anti-static.  Of course my CT-22 has long been out of warranty.

It wasn't really ever pointed out that I remember seeing, but if my observations are correct the issues were always with the CT '6 line, not the older models.  Perhaps that would be due to new and improved electronics in the current models hating static electricity.

I agree with Fred and Peter. The Oneida Dust Deputy is really the way to go.  I haven't done a scientific test, but I would guess that the Deputy collects almost 95% of the sawdust from the sander or saw.  I'm also using the cheapo version with the CT26 and haven't had a problem, yet...but, now that this electrical issue has been pointed out, I will double-check my grounding and look into the updated version of the Deputy.

  Hey Guys,

For my own clarification, I thought that some of you using the Dust Deputy had some resulting electrical problems with the CT's. Has thing been the case? If so, has Oneida come up with a fix?

Bob

Bob,

I've had my Dust Deputy for 3 or 4 years now and have been using it with my CT22 and I've not ever had a problem.  Not sure, but it seems like those that had the problems were using the Ultimate Dust Deputy, while mine is just the cheaper Dust Deputy that mounts on a 5 gal plastic pail.  Mine sits on the floor next to the CT22.

That said, after having a built a Thien baffle for my 2hp dust collector, I'd build one of those for a couple bucks before I spent the money on a Dust Deputy again.  The thien baffle works every bit as well as the dust deputy and my dust deputy glue joints failed after a couple years.

I have the CTL 26 and the cheap and cheerful ($39) Dust Deputy. I have been using it for almost 2 years and have had no problems and do not lay awake at night worrying about it. I reckon that I separate better than 95% as I usually empty my drop box (about 30 litres) every 2-3 weeks when I am busy but only change my bag every year which is less than 1/10th full.
