The lady who does the shipping/receiving and inventory control has been making due with some old junky metal table on wheels for quite a while. Months ago, I told her I would make something better, just need some details....ball in her court. The boss told her to just buy something, but she never found anything she liked and the stuff out there was crazy expensive. So we somewhat whittled it down to more of what she didn't like and go from there.
Simple, small, light, but expandable for the occasional box of laminate. That is a box which is about 12" square, but 60" long. (kind of a square tube) They are a little strange to handle, rather heavy for what it looks like. She doesn't need this feature all the time, so the cart doesn't need to be that big for everyday use.
This is what I have come up with so far. The drawer is just poplar, box jointed with the Shaper. Some of that oak plywood makes up the rest, with a piece of scrap laminate for the top, and 3mm PVC edge. That lower slab slides out of either side, at this point, and can be modified per her wishes.
I just threw it together today unfinished anywhere, just so she can mess with it next week. I expect some changes/additions, but want her to get some experience with it first.
The drawer is 5" deep, so I think I am going to add a sliding, shallow pencil drawer inside of it. We'll see what happens as it gets used.
I have been working on this off and on for a couple of Saturdays, so she got a bit of a preview last week. I may have a hard time getting it back to put finish on it.... [unsure]
