Small Circle with the Carvex

I'm trying to cut a small circle with th carvex circle cutter. I've cut some medium sized ones, but when I try to do th smallest ones, the pin and base that connects the carvex get in the way of each other. I must be missing something simple.

The marking on the guide is the radius so the smallest circle would have a diameter of 80mm.anything smaller and you need to use a holesaw , start the hole then remove the pilot bit so the other side doesn't have a hole in the middle.
Dave

Take the pilot bit out of the holesaw and chuck it in a drill press.

If you don't have a drill press, use the holesaw to drill through a piece of scrap, then clamp the scrap to the work and use the hole as a guide for the holesaw sans pilot.

I have a cheap drill press, but am concerned the bit will either be too shallow or burn the heck out of the wood while drilling 2".

I'm surprised the 4 cm radius (80 mm diameter) marking doesn't work like it does for anything above 6 cm radius. With Dave's suggestion I thinking I'm missing how to keep the circle perfect without the pin in.

Muffel ? Dip Saw ?

I really wish Mafell wasn't such a skunk of a company to deal with from Australia ... I'd honestly be tempted to get one of their jig saws ... with 4 already (3 Festool, 1 Hitachi) that's a dramatic call for me!

I'm not joking about "skunk" ... just trying to be polite - over two years ago and I still resent being rudely told to "go away and talk to their US reseller" ... idiots [blink]

Mine should be here any day Kev... I'll let you know how it goes.

The OP may not need the saw, but he may want to try that blade...
It is 2x wider, but tapered to standard width and FT-Carvex does Bosch T mount, so maybe it is worth a try in the Carvex? Be mad not to try and made it work.

LOL, So I take it you won't be hanging out in the Mafell user forum then.

On a serious note,  I also looked into purchasing from Mafell in Aus and decided that life's just too short.

"Muffy, would you be a dear and fetch me my Muffel dip saw?"

Kev, have you tried writing to Mafell senior management?

Great video. I think she's coming on to him there at the end; she's certainly getting cozy for a reporter...

Tell me you're joking ... Lucia Braitmaier himself told me to sod off and talk to Timberwolf US if I was interested in Mafell. At that point I concluded that his tiny little brain didn't know where Australia was and it cured me of EVER dealing with them.

The video is interesting especially the last part with the glass of water and the sander. That intrigued me so much I decided to do my own test. As I'm redoing a bathroom, all of my Festool sanders were already out of their Systainers and readily at hand.
Results:
RO 90 = no ripples
RO 125 = no ripples
DTS 400 = no ripples
ETS 125 = no ripples
RS 2 = no ripples
LS 130 = Ripples

So, what appeared to be a Muffle exclusive in the sanding game, actually is not. I do wish the RS 2 had the extraction holes in the side of the pad though.

The LS130 is linear, so you have to expect that result.

He is joking...it's a piece left over from the TS 55 imperial label issue [big grin]

Kinda thought so ...  [big grin]

Anyway, for the record:

First, cut a hole through 3/4" oak or other hard wood. Then, remove the pilot bit and use the previous hole to guide the hole saw for your "keeper"
