Small table

My wife asked for a table to place some cactuses on that needed a home. No directions other than that. I used up some mahogany my neighbor gave me a few months back for this one. I'll need a break from that species of wood as the tearout drove me nuts although it gave me a new appreciation for card scrapers.

Nicely-built projects like this show why the DF500 is an absolute killer: offsets, cabinetmaker's buttons and ... simplicity.

Anyone who is still sitting on the fence (holding on to their decades old dowelling jigs, biscuit joiners, etc.) about getting a DF500 is wasting precious time of their woodworking life! [tongue] Get a DF500 as your Christmas gift! (No, I'm not recommending a DF700 if you're mostly a furniture maker.)

That's a very nicely understated little table. That curve is very subtle, and more visible (to me at least) on the table itself. The contrast is so minimal, when it is sitting on the bench, it's hard to see. Did you do it on the ends too, or just the front/back?
I really like that variant on the taper. It appears to start about half way up, which almost gives the impression that the leg curves out.
I'm sure she will love it.

That's the funny thing. She doesn't give much gushing or praise. She likes the stuff I make but not the time it takes to make it. She is happy with it though.

You have a very keen eye. I did not curve the ends as they are so tiny I felt you would never notice if I did. This was my first time doing a curve. I actually made a drawing bow with a turnbuckle to lay it out from a FWW tip:

This whole table was done out of my head. I didn't do any sketches or write anything down like I normally do. Just kinda looked at the width and length of the board I had for the top and went with it.

That makes a lot of sense, though I appreciate that you left it off. It makes for an interesting leg.
I generally do the things I build for myself the same way, totally on the fly.
That's how I ended up with the last table having the taper reversed. They are wider at the bottom.
It was just a whim and I went for it.
I have tapered a whole lot of legs, but never half way like that, usually all the way up to the apron, or just 4 or 5 inches up from the floor.
I even went as far as creating a jig to make legs that taper from a 1 5/8" square at the top to a 1" octagon at the bottom. I'm going to have to make another table, just to use that again [wink]
