This year’s Xmas break project was to build a breakfast/BBQ/general drinking bar on our back patio.
The frame is 35 x 70 treated pine, faced with marine ply inside and out. Inside ply treated with Osmo outer ply painted grey to blend with the palings.
The outer faces use vertical palings of Mod Wood, a plastic/wood blend which I had leftover from last years deck build.
The bar top is made from leftover hardwood floor boards I have scrounged from neighbourhood builds - a mix of Ironbark and Brushbox.
The top was laminated using 8mm Sipo Dominoes for alignment. That Ironbark is HARD. About 4 hrs sanding to finish - first with 40 grit and the RO150 then 60-180 grits on the ETC 150.
Attached the two bar tops at the 45 degree cut with Zipbolts to allow for movement - no glue. And fitted the top to the frame using buttons slotted into 10mm slots cut with the Domino.
Anyway had my first sundown beer at the bar tonight - couldn’t be happier with it.
