Needed to upgrade my pliers

So I’ve some new knipex turned up today
This is what I had (I know if you know me and my posts you probably don’t believe me but it’s true and something I’ve needed to do for ages )

I got the electricians pliers a couple of months ago and they are great!

I got really bit by the same bug and got this lot over the last months...

No comparison to what I had before.

What is the linkage for between the grips on the pliers 4th from the left?  I haven't seen ones like that before.

Where have these been all of my life !?  I never knew they existed.  Man I could have used self locking channel-lock type jaws on so many occasions.  Thanks much for the info.

Dick - those are self-adjusting, not locking.

However Knipex does also call all of the Cobra and Alligator pliers self locking due to the way they tighten when force is applied in the right direction.

Shop around  on the price. It varies a lot. And check amazon.de (Germany). Price on Knipex is generally quite a bit less even with the shipping charge.

I only had channel-locking ones before and originally wanted to get the ones that adjust with a button...

Then upon looking around a bit, I found that they make a „quick adjusting“ version of the cobra with the button surrounded by a red ring. That will let the jaws slide close and then lock the mechanism.

And then I saw these with the Smart Grip. You just clamp, no adjustments needed. Great tool!

As mentioned previously, the jaws all are designed in a way to „lock“ the pliers on the work piece, so you really only need to push the top lever (back lever?!) down and they stay in place. Watch the dem they do with stepping onto the pliers...

Price wise, you really need to shop around. These can be usually had for 28€ here in Germany.
