I had made about 10 small cutting boards for gifts at my wife's office so she commissioned me to do some coasters.  I had never made any before and figured it wouldn't be too hard.  I started by gluing up some 12 mm thick blanks and when they were done and cut into 4" x 4"'s, they were sliced in half at the band saw and then finished off to final thickness in the open end drum sander.  That Supermax is great for this stuff.  Just what the doctor ordered.  I used some Paduak and Walnut  Next set will be Pakuak and maple.  Finishing was some medium dark Watco oil and then satin Poly for moisture resistance.  The access in the front of the box took the longest time.  It's not perfectly symmetrical but close.  I'll have to spend some time doing a template to speed along future attempt.

Nice!

Never thought of making coasters like that. Might have to try it!

thanks. There's a locally owned store that sells household stuff that's interested in selling them as well as my cutting boards.  If I can work out a deal, it could help feed my green habit!

Howard,

What type of glue do you use on your cutting boards?  I use titebond type 3. But just wondering if there is a different or better product for cutting boards.
