looks like a good little tool, shame you are having to but a new drill (not [big grin])

if you was to do the face plate would you need to take off and re align the jig or is there some builtin adjstment?
id love to see it in action on hardwood or a firedoor when you gt your shiney new drill [tongue]

When I get my drill from RCF I will do couple of videos in hardwood for ya! 

About built in alignment no!  If you had like say 5 doors you would do the mortice hole on all 5 then change to cutter which is just a small router like cutter on the end with a larger one same width as the face plate I would then put the lock into the hole to mark the top and bottom and you then would have to go round all 5 doors again doing the face plate the same way you did the mortice hole.

Sorry  ain't had time working 7 days week at the moment i got the drill other week.  Nice drill do a review just on the drill lol. I will try and use the mortice jig this week with the drill and do a video.  Sorry its been so long

The vid is just showing me using my new drill with the souber really. Pretty quick really I gotta get use to it but if I have a few doors it would fly through them

Speed!  It is defuntly a tool made for the job!  Like you said it did it very quickly and once you get the hang of it you can do some many more locks.

I have decided after new year I am going to take on less work (even though I already have a few jobs booked after xmas because people didnt want the mess before xmas) and get my house finished so I am able to start to build my work shop! I have a few new doors to hang at my house so ill do a video to see how quick I can do both I cnt do this on a job as I cnt ask the client or my work mate to film me while I do this lol Ill get my girlfriend to film me at my house though.

Well I got personal message the other day from Paul Souber the owner of Souber on this Forum his name on here is just Souber.  Well he thanked me for doing the video and to show his appriciation he sent me two new cutters for free I recieved them very quickly! These where the new type cutters for cutting striaght only. I have yet to try these new cutters I was going to do it this weekend but didnt get time. I will try them and do a video to show the difference between the two.

Was alot cheaper aswell along time ago!  My local dealer still has one from 3 years ago and its like £100  and I got a newer one which is more n less the same and payed LOADS more.

This is for you Rob! As you asked for my opinion I did a video so you can make your own opinion on how well it works or not with a batterie drill

As you can see in the Video the first mortise hole took a bit longer than the rest as its my first time using it with a batterie drill.  With my mains drill I move up and down slowly and push but as you can see in the video this technique does not work well with a batterie drill.  The second hole half way through I decided to move up and down a lot quicker but don't push has hard into the wood and you can see this cuts the mortise hole quicker but also less strain on the drill so more batterie life. \

It did 6 mortise holes and abit with one batterie charge so with two batteries thats 12/13 for a day! lol

Took me less than 11 mins for 6 and a bit mortise holes  so thats well under 2 mins a mortise lock.

Remember this is my first time using batterie drill on the Souber as  Rob asked me by MP what it would be like with a T15 but I have not got m T15 on me so I used my 18V Milwaukee. So sorry if the vidoe is abit rubbish I had one attempt as thats the only 4x2 I had!

Also the video stops and starts again as my camera only records videos for so long but soon as the video ran out I stopped and then waited for the video to start again before I carried on and then used Imovies to join the two videos together  (at about 9 mins in).

I know the video is a bit long!  Should I speed up the video?!  The video is mainly just to show how many and how quickly you can drill out mortises with a battery drill instead of a power drill which is whats its actually designed for. My drill did get hot but I dont think any one would do hole after hole like that as I would assume doors would not be side by side so you might aswell chop the face plate out while your by the door and just move along to each door giving your drill time to cool down.  I know the souber is designed to also do the face plates but for how long it takes to chisel a face plate I dont think its worth changing the bit and reseting the souber plus you have to be more accurate at alining it to get top and bottom equal to the mortise hole.

JMB, the video is fine other than the buffering going on at 480.  Maybe there were tons of people checking it out at the same time.  It's obvious now how the tool works and how well it works.  The only thing better would be a division of trained termites.

Do you use any size bits other than supplied with the kit?

Oh yeah it was getting hard on my arms and trigger finger as you could tell I kept swapping round lol

I only use the bits supplied and I dont use all of them.  In the video I am using a 19mm bit which came with the tool I dont know if they do a smaller one but that size is perfect for mortise locks.  

Ill load some pictures of the bits and the two FREE bits souber sent me for doing the first Video I made on this topic.

Here these are the bits the 3 on the right side are the ones which come with the tool they are like router bits.    The 2 on the left are the ones Souber sent me for free to say thank you for the video I made.   In the videos I used the 19mm you can see on the right side.    The two on the left are designed for a straight single holes eg. going right through the door to the other side with a longer bar I was told these cutters are designed to stay far straighter and don't wander of. I can tell you they look a lot meaner though.

Here you can see I can fit my drill two batteries and hammer(not my hammer mine is on the job its my mums hammer) and easily fit your chisels aswell.

The box closes easily with everything in so you can simply walk onto the job just with this box and fit mortise locks.

I was told that 40/45 seconds was a fast time to cut out the mortise hole!  So decided to try and beat it! Not sure when they started timing but im timing from when I start the drill and hit the wood straight away.

I did it on average 24seconds. I am using a power drill in this video which is what its designed for but as I demonstrated above a batterie drill still does it in a very good time.
