Anyone in the Philly/South-Jersey area know where one can purchase quality sheet goods at fair price?  If they have a decent selection that would be terrific too.

When we owned a sign shop, we had access to just about everything, and they delivered, to the shop of course.  However, they do not sell to the public so I'm out here in the cold.

You may not be the sign shop anymore but you are a "business." Make some business cards with your business name and use it to get into some of the non-retail showrooms.
Next, go to "formica.com" and under Delaer Locator put your address and you will get 8 locations for Formica. Very often one or more of these places also have distribution rights for plywood.
You will also see Home Depot listed. Go there and go to the Contractors Desk (biz card again.) Usually they will have a notebook of materials they can order for you.  They buy from the wholesale places that do not sell to you. The prices are pretty good and the delivery is often next day to the store. This is not the same as their stock at all.

I assume the place you used to buy from was Fessenden Hall (sp?)? A business card alone won't be enough to open an account with them. Actually a lot of the better places around the area are like that now. The Hall actually wants documentation of your business and they want to come out and see your shop before they'll let you open an account. They're awesome if you can get setup with them.

There are two that I know of, that are somewhat in the area, that might be able to work with you:

CH Briggs (formerly Atlantic Plywood)
215-538-3774- Select sales from the menu and then ask for Ken. Ken is a good guy and will help you out if its possible.

They are now in the Souderton, PA area, but they've always been willing to deliver anywhere I wanted them to provided you have enough on your order. It used to be a $200 minimum, but I don't know about today. Even though I run an official business, I never had to do anything with this place other than just verbally give them my info. They sold to me without verifying any of it. I've been dealing with them for years and I'm very happy with their stuff.

The other is Industrial Plywood in Reading, PA

I've never dealt with this place, but I have heard very good things about them.

I get all of my stuff from either the Hall, or Briggs.

Good Luck

Yeah, Fesseden Hall was who we used at the sign shop.  I called them a couple of months ago asking about delivery or even counter pickup.  Nope.  Gotta use someone else, like a local lumber yard to have them place the order.  I called Haddonfield Lumber and DuBell (who I use for my normal 2-by stock).  Neither one had a clue about what I wanted to do.  Seems if it's not under the shed roof out back, they do not know anything.  Oh well...

The other two, I had not heard of.  I will check them out.

Say anyone use Azek for their exterior work?

Thanks.

I thought I would followup my original posted question about sheetgoods in the South Jersey area.  I have a big cabinet project coming up soon and really needed to find suppliers closer than Madison, NJ and Reading, PA...  :(

I found a place called Bennet Lumber.  It's on Atlantic Ave at Clements Bridge Road, next to the railroad tracks.  They've been there since the 1870's.

They have a decent selection of the usual 4x8 plywood material.  Birch, Poplar, Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Oak and can generally get anything else you need.

They also have a terrific selection of hardwoods!  When I stopped by this morning they had some beautiful pieces of Babinga, Purple Heart, Zebra Wood, Wenge, Walnut, Lacewood, Hard and Soft Maple, Cocobolo, Ash, Bass, Butternut, etc...  If I recall correctly, they had at least 4/4 and 8/4, some 12/4, up to 8-12 inches wide in just about everything I looked at.  They even had some 20-24 inch wide pieces of, what looked like walnut.

With the upcomg cabinet project, I can see where I am going to drain the ole bank account.   ;D
