Special hose for CT22E?

I have the CT22E vacuum.  Thinking about getting the new Rotex 150 6" sander.

Do I need a special hose for the sander?  I ask because of the little "blow" hole in the middle of the pad.

Toolpig,
The standard hose works with the Rotex sander.  You do not need a different hose.  By the way, several Festool sanders have the extra "blow hole" in the center, and they all work with the standard hose.

So, have a whale of a time with your new sander -- blow hole and all!

Stay in touch,

As Matthew said, you use the CT22 standard hose with all of the Festool sanders.  To clarify, the air that comes out of the center hole in the sander pad is generated by the sander, not by the vacuum.  Air is blown out the center hole by the sander and then sucked into the outside holes by the vacuum.

I'm new to Festool but I did spend 3 hours yesterday with my new 150 and 22.  Hose worked perfect and after watching the video on how the blow hole and vacuum holes worked I decided to take a closer look.  It works just like they said it would.  Neat!  Beyond neat!  Can't wait to use the new 1400 and see how that works too.  Like the idea of the big arm that holds the hose and will probably go for it because I almost stepped on that pretty green hose a number of times.

If you are basically new to WW'ing (after 30 yr vacation) be careful when you start using the 1400.  That vac pickup attachment can give you fits if you try larger bits that don't fit thru the opening.  I have not used mine a whole lot yet as I use my OF 1000 for most of my router work.  When you do try out the 1400 with large diameter bits, look things over very carefully and think thru the operation and picture in your mind how you will proceed and program your reactions.  Like riding a bike, you think thru how you will respond so that in emergency, there is no responce, just reflex action in the proper order.

if you DO LIKE the 1400, be very cautios about going back to the toy store.  if you do go, be sure to take somebody withyou (maybe NN) to go in and inspect that they DO NOT have an OF 1010 dispplayed.  That can be VERY dangerous.

Hi David and all,

One tiny correction.  The air is drawn through a port in the pad out the center hole and sucked into the outside holes by the vac so all of the action is caused by the vac.  The sander does not generate or blow air, it just provides a conduit directing the air pulled by the vac.  When I received my first Festool sander years back I also thought the sander blew air through that center hole, but if you look carefully at the perimeter of the pad you will see the port that connects to the center hole.  I think I covered this in my sanders manual which is now available for download from the Festool site.  Hope this helps.

Tinker.  Are you saying I should have bought the 1010?  I heard the 1400 was good because it takes all sizes.

Nope. He's saying that you are now on the slippery slope and you will begin to covet the 1010 just because it is a cool router.

Nope, I'm saying what Greg Mann said.

I would not part with either of them.  I have a whole stack of those grey boxes under my MFT.  Every box is full of those black & green toys.  You will definitely need help if you continue to go to your toy store where they have all that stuff.

I had several PC and Milwaukee routers before i was introduced to the OF 1000.  Since then, I need to go far into the bottom of the dusty heap to locate those other routers.  I have a whole lot of 1/2" bits that make the 1400 worthwhile.  i had decided to not invest in any 8mm bits as the 1400 takes the 1/2" bits.  After using the 1400, i will use those other routers even less.  But, I found I like that little 1000 so much, I am setting up a list of 8mm bits to make that one even more usefull.  If you want to stay a one router shop, and are sinsere in the thought, DO NOT go near a festool dealer or toy store for any reason.  If you do, you are toast. ;D

Well, from what I hear you saying about being a 1 router shop, I'm ok with the 1400.  I do have a 24 year old Black & Decker router that has hardly been used so I guess I'm a 2 routher shop now.  I did read about some smaller routers, is that where the 1010 comes in?

If i had gotten the 1400 first, I probably would never have gotten the 1000.  the 1400, as you have found, can use 1/4, 8mm and 1/2 bits.  that is one reson i got it after I already had the 1000.  They are both great routers with very much the same feel and control methods.  Since i got the 1000 first, I found a need for a larger router that would take 1/2" bits.  Don't take my joshing for the reason for your own expansion.

i like the methods for adjusting the 1400 to be easier than on the 1000, but I imagine the newer 1010 is also easier.  I like the feel of the 1000 as it is considerably lighter weight.

both machines do have much the same feel to them and both are more comfortable (to me) to operate free hand without the guidebar.  The controls are easier than any of my other routers, especially the switches.  The PC's (older models like 8-10 yrs old) are impossible as far as switch location.

you asked about light weight routers.  Yes, the 1010 is lighter weight than the 1400 by quite a bit, but you may be thinking of pin routers when you asked the question.  Pin routers are much smaller and have their own place in any shop.  i do not have any of them.  I have a couple of projects coming up where I have been thinking about a pin router but will give them a try with the OF 1000 first.

With all of these replies, I think i have covered all the bases I can cover.
Have fun
