Splinter guard coming off - any developments?

Out of the box, the two tracks that I bought with my TS55 had splinter guards that were coming off.  Poor adhesive and/or material by Festool as far as I can tell.  I did a search and found a thread here where the problem was experienced by many.

I contacted the seller recently and he told me to get some spray adhesive.  My view is that I have paid a premium price for a tool and wonder why I should have to invest the time and effort to repair it when I have used it one time to cut a panel.  Both tracks have this problem and one has never touched a board or panel.

So question is, anyone found a good way to resolve this PITA?  [sad]

You can also use FASTCAP double sided tape.It works really good and you don't have to worry about over spray.

I used a 1/2" x 1 1/2 strip of double faced tape on each end of the rail and it solved the problem so far.

I have 4 rails that I put the new strips on about a year ago.
I still have not had one issue and I really don't take special care of them.

I spoke to Shane about this two weeks ago while in Indy. He said it was a problem that was experienced early on with the initial shipments of the new clear splinter guards. The newer product had received a different adhesive and as far as they knew the problem had been solved. I have a couple of rails with the problem and am looking forward to trying the new splinter guards.

I had this same problem with my 55" rails that I purchased new. The dealer game me a new (black) guard and it's stayed
on fine, despite sitting in the barn through 115 degree temps last summer.

Now the real question is, how can I tell if the clear guard that came with my accessories kit purchase is a good one or a bad one?

All I can say there is try one and see how it preforms. I have two rails that I bought through the TS promotion last year. They both need new guards as they are peeling. I picked up the new ones, clear again, and am going to try them soon as I get a chance.

i think festool should offer a replacment to everyone that is experiening this [eek] [wink]

Call Festool and send the whole thing back. Tell them they need to fix it or send you a new rail. BS on the reply from the seller, if you bought them new he should stand behind the sale and make sure you're satisfied. If it's within 30 days send them back to him and get your money back. Then go find another dealer...

A large part of the price we pay for these tools is the assurance we'll be satisfied with them and that the dealer/distributor network will insure we get top-quality tools with no defects. Insisting on getting what you paid for isn't unreasonable or being a PITA, it's why you bought Festool in the first place.

Just my $.02 worth,
Bill

Well being a cheapskate I peel the strip off and the re-glue them back with 3M Super77 to get a new rubber edge especially with the older blades and different kerf widths. I never got a T-shirt for suggesting Festool change the color of their strip from black to a color that was easier to see :-)

I wish they would go back to the black rubber strips.  I find them more grippy and it aids in holding the rail in position.  Personally, I don't see the benefit of the clear ones.  BTw I used silicone caulk to hold mine on.  Just on the ends though.  Spread on a thin layer with your finger on the last three inches at each end and it keeps them from starting to peel.
