Splinter Guards coming unglued

Hi,  first post on this board.
I bought a TS55 from Bob Marino earlier this spring.  And I love it.  It has made a few jobs infinitely easier.  After using it a couple times I bought an additional rail locally so I could cut 8' sheets and everything was right in the world.

Until summer came.

In june I noticed that the ends of the splinter strip was coming unstuck.  I could usually press them back into position.  But recently I found the strip on both rails has come almost completely detached.  I store them in the garage and it does get hot out there but I am kind of disappointed that the adhesive doesn't seem to stand up to snuff.  What should I do?  Glue them back on shifted over a bit so I can recut?  Or something else?  What kind of glue should I use?

Thanks in advance.

I had good luck re-activating the adhesive with a hairdryer on mine.  Heat up the loose area and reapply it a little over the original location.  Trim as normal with the blade you will be using with the guide.

I too have experienced this on the new rails with the semi-transparent splinter guard.  It has never happened on any of my older rails with the black splinter guard.

I've purchased 3 rails in the past year and all are losing their splinter guards.  Festool ought to find someplace else to buy adhesives.  First the systainers and now this.
Very dissappointed; not what I expected when I bought Festool.

I assume Festool changed the adhesive because people complained that old stuff adhered too well.  Changing out the old splinterguards was a total pain.  I guess we can't have our cake and eat it to.

Brice,

Are you saying that Festool has let their guard down on this one?

+1

This has already happened to my new 3000mm rail. It is only 2 month old?

Replace all my old splinter strip with the new clear & every one is peeling away at the ends !

I also found this happening to my guiderail(s) lately as well.  But then again, they have been in my truck and the heat index here in the south has been around 110 as of late, so I'm chalking it up to it being too hot.  If anything it's prompting my lazy butt to order some new ones that are much needed anyway...I also tried to reuse these strips by heating them up with a heat gun and scooting them over a hair and re-trimming them, so this most likely didn't help with the long term adhesion of the strips.

Fastcap's Speed tape works well to reattach a splinter guard.  It works best to clean all the old adhesive from the rail first with some acetone or some such solvent.

YES!!  FastCap speed tape is the way to go.I have not had any problem. And yes,use acetone or laquer thinner to clean the surface first.

Call me picky but, why should I have to fix a Festool product with some other manufacturers product to make it the way it should have been in the first place?  From the number of posts on this subject, it is clear that this is more than just an isolated instance or two.  Perhaps Festool could weigh in on this?

I have 2 1400's with the old strip which are ~3 years old, no issue.
My newer (6 months old) and never been used (for cutting) LR32 rail is peeling from both ends.

Yes, it is nice that Festool made it easier to replace the edge strip. Unfortunate that they have also made it (seemingly necessary to replace it.

i never found it hard to replace the old strips, i just ran a sarp chisel down them. The new ones are coming off my rails aswell, i thought they would as soon as i put them on as they didnt seem to stick verywell

Thanks everybody.  At least I am not the only one?  [unsure]
I'll try to find speed tape locally and see if I can put it all back together.  Worst part is that the strips come unglued yet the adhesive is still slightly tacky.  Just tacky enough to become a dust magnet so reactivating the glue isn't really an option.  This was my first festool purchase and I have to say I am a little disappointed in the "system" at this point.

I had the same problem with a 4 month old 55". Went and bought a new black splinter guard ($13) and it seems to work much better..... but time will tell.

I put the new ones on my rails and I treat them like a red headed step child.

I have not had an issue with the splinter strips coming loose.

They have been living in my trailer all summer and it gets to be over 100 degrees in there during the day.

I just purchased the TS 55 from Bob and taking the guide rails out of the box, the splinter guard on the 55" rail was already undone on both ends and the 42" that I purchased is bent on both ends so I can't even put the connectors in!
