Splinter Guards coming unglued

Remove the old adhesive with either a razor or other sharp tool. Then clean off with solvent of choice. Then use carpet tape (2 sided). Works for me.

+1 Rails less than 2 months old and the guards are constantly peeling off.  Don't blame the dealer, clearly an inferior product solution here.  I will investigate the fastcap tape.

Spoke with Bob, he is already taking care of everything. It is a pleasure to do business with him and I look forward to purchasing from him in the future. [thanks]

What did he do to take care of everything?  I'm having the same problem with my new LR32 rail.

I had the same thing with the black splinter guards. Got some of the clear splinter guards and it is great.

Ok, back to the FOG! I sent him a black splinter-guard. If yours isn't sticking after you "pull-off/reapply, let me know and I can send one when I get back home Monday.

Heh, that's backwards from what we are used to

Hello everyone. First time poster here.
My splinter guards are starting to come off at the ends right out from the box.   I have some automotive 3M VHB tape that will take care of that. But it is a 60 mils (1.5 mm) thick.  I did a quick research and 3M offers a VHB transfer tape that is 10 mils thick (0.2 mm). McMaster sell it for $42 for 60 yards (part# 7628A56).  I think the 5 mills will work as well, and it is cheaper. See LINK

The clear splinter guard came off my one year old 3000mm rail.  The older 1400mm rail with the black guard has no issues.  I contacted the dealer and he promptly gave me a new splinter guard in exchange for the old one that came off.  The new splinter guard seems to hold well for the time being, remains to be seen how it endures in the long run.

Sorry to bring up an older post, but I am wondering if there has been a fix/resolution for this?  I just picked up a TS55 yesterday, and the semi-transparent guard was already peeling from both ends straight out of the box.

I've gone back to the old black anti-splinter strip because of this problem.  I've bought Makita ones, about £5.50 for a 1400mm length, so significantly cheaper then the transparent ones.  If it's coming off out-of-the-box then contact the seller for a replacement strip.

I orginally posted this problem.  I fixed the problem by using some double stick tape (carpet tape) to stick the strip back on.  I had to kind of nudge it over a little so that I could re-cut the strip.  So far that seems to have worked.  But I agree, it shouldn't be happening out of the box.

Well, after using the saw for the first time, my splinter guard which was previously peeling at both ends has remained affixed with no signs of coming off. I suppose if it does start peeling again I'll use the double sided tape fix.

I have a few guide rails! Two of them are newish which came with a white splinter guard but the others did have black but now I only have one left with Black splinter guard as I replaced the rest with white!   I wish I didnt as I never had a problem with the black splinter guards but the white just don't stick well

I think the WHITE is better than black easier to see BUT BUT! I think the white is no where near as good as the black! For some reason they have not just changed the colour from black to white but! They have changed a few things on it!

1. They have made the white more stiff/Harder than the black! I dont know what the benefits are for this.

2. They have removed the rebate for where the double sided sticker goes. I think this is a Down grade! As I have had durt go under the rail and splinter guard because of the small gap between tape and guide and the dirt works its way to tape and the splinter guard starts to come away!  I have had to get some glue and glue is back on

3. The white is narrower than the black your guide has a small lip which the old black use to put up against but if you put the white up to it its to short in width and so does not reach your blade.

4. Some reason if you buy a new Guide rail now unlike the old guide rails with black strips they dont reach the end why not?!?!

Summary!

They have reduced the cost in making by not having a rebate! They have made it narrower to reduce material and they cut it short on the rails to also reduce material BUT did they reduce the cost?!  I don't know because I dont know how much the black guide use to cost.

Here is a picture of what I have mentioned above

Weird!?  Because i bought the new white splinter guard for my 55" rail and it was wide enough so that it goes against that small ridge and i had to cut it with the saw.
Also,i used FastCap double sided tape and worked like a charm.

Sorry! Yes I am wrong! I have removed the post!  It was a while ago but I dont know why but I had it in my head it was not as wide! I dont know why!

I just had a look at the guide rails!  Sorry!

So the only differences with the Black and White!

1. The white comes short when buying a new rail!

2. The white feels stiffer/harder.  I think being more flexible helps stop it from peeling away as the splinter guard will bend before its pulled away from the guad rail. The white being harder is more easily unstuck.

3. The sticky tape does not cover the entire width of the white splinter guard!  The black strips it does  this helps to keep it stuck down better as 1. More sticky surface area! 2. Dirt can not work its way between the rail and splinter guard as easilly as their is no gap.

So ill not be buying any more white splinter guards when these new ones come off or become worn.  Ill be buying like mentioned already the makita black strips.
