splinter guards

I have used my Festool 75 for a couple of years now. I have yet to have an application to use the right side splinter guard. When I played with it the other day, I couldn't get the blade to engage the guard without the blade being set quite deep. Am I missing something here? I know, I should be able to figure this out myself, but that is why I have read most things posted here for the last year or so.

Doesn't it get cut with use? Therefore you must have used it once on a deep cut...
