I tried to make it as easy and simple with as little setup tools as necessary. Only 4 dogs required....
I realized when using the fence clamps that a slight mod would take care of the slight gap to the dogs without the need of a piece of wood as shown by others. Fence clamp top can now move back and forth.
I used a 1/4 drill for the top and 3/8 drill from the bottom to connect the 2 individual holes on the fence clamp milling the plastic away on my drill press.

Rail squared (i just moved it back and away from the stops towards the dogs:
