Stand for Festool Kapex Miter

All very valid points and very much appreciated.

I guess my thoughts are that I want my saw to be mobile but when I am mobile, fractions of an inch are probably not going to always be as important. For example, my first job for it will be completing my dock and boat slips. However, when stationary in my shop, accuracy is of the utmost importance and as one of you said (and I agree) why buy such a great, accurate saw and then compromise quality on measurements.

I guess I lean towards a Rigid mobile base and then working towards setting up a permanent, more "cadillac" type deal for my shop. I guess I can start with that and if there is a need for absolute accuracy when mobile in the future I can always purchase a Best Fence then.

I did look at the Best Fence Pro set ups. I think they do look nice. However, they aren't any cheaper as a package than buying the Rigid stand and adding on a Best Fence to it. To be honest, I think the Rigid stand looks a little more user friendly and rugged. I freely admit I've never personally touched either (just a bunch of YouTube videos) so someone correct me if I am wrong on that.

I like your set-up. Would a CT26 fit underneath?  SML, Rigid or Pro2...I think either. Both set-ups cost about the same.  I too wonder, which one is built better? And, which one weighs less?  We know from Jerry, that the Rigid is well built.
 
My reason for not buying the festool stand was I thought for the money it wasn't very heavy duty . I'm sure it will hold up fine to daily use but it didn't impress me at all . Just not enough bang for my buck . If it were half the price I might have considered it . 

SML yes your right about being in the same price range if you bought the Best Fence and the Ridgid stand . I think the Best Fence is a lot nicer then the festool fence . It's wider which is nice if your doing wide molding . You can add on to it to make any length fence system you need .  I don't mined paying for something I see as a good value , I just didn't see it in the UG set up .  Foot print of the setup wasn't something that was high on my list of "must haves".    You can add jigs to the best fence using the back stops . Jigs   I've done this with a kreg jig setup . I've seen guys hang small router tables from the fence . 

I do trim and cabinets so this setup for me has worked out pretty well . I use the Kapex in the shop and on the road .

I assume that you got the Rigid stand after the Pro2 came out? Have you checked it out?  If so, how would compare its sturdiness? I have someone from Fastcap getting me the weight of their stand tomorrow (minus the fences.) I like the pneumatic tires and all of the adjustments to get the saw and fences level.
 
Owner of Fastcap phoned me today (made a video for me, yesterday) and assured me that the Pro2 is the best made and sturdiest portable stand on the market.  FWIW, it weighs 77 pounds (w/out the fences) Rigid stand weighs 67 pounds.  For complete accuracy, sturdiness, and value, it seems to me that this is the best way to go.

Only reason I didn't get the pro was the amount of room it would take up in my truck but it looks like a winner . I like how the fences can store on the stand . It does look rock solid and pretty simple to setup .  I have not seen the Pro in person  so I can't compare it to anything . If the stand is anything like the fence material it's a winner . That's one thing that impressed me once I got my hands on the Best Fence , its heavy duty .    I store my setup in a corner of the truck .  Like the pic below another reason why I got the ridgid stand .

OK...I have one final question:

When the Kapex is set up stationary in a shop (forget about mobility for a minute), what is the best fence on the market for stationary use?

Is the Best Fence from FastCaps still a great choice for a stationary set up. Ultimately, I think I want to buy this as a stationary set up. If the Best Fence is what I will want in my shop (which is where the Kapex will be most of it's life) then I want to purchase a fence that is the best choice for that kind of set up. If that is the FastCaps "Best Fence" then all the better because I can use it in the shop and still maintain accuracy outside the shop.

If the Best Fence is the fence of choice for the shop, then I'm probably going with a Pro2 set up. If not, I'll probably buy the Rigid since I can buy the stand alone and then buy a different fence to set it up with in the shop.

The Best Fence set up will serve you well in the shop too but I think if your kapex is going to spend 90% of its life there you could just make your own fence system for the shop and be done with it and just use the built in setup on what ever stand you buy for mobile use . 
 
John-  Do you have any pictures of your Kreg fence set up?  That looks like a great solution for a good shop fence.  Did you put a peel and stick ruler on the top track?  Which one?  This is a great thread!  We are about considering buying the Kapex and I have some of the same questions/concerns the OP had.

Sorry, but I have no pics.  I'm using it right now w/o the fence because I'm in the middle of re-doing the casing in our old home...long story.  (Ugh).

I was ready to pull the trigger on the Pro2 until a recent thread exposed that the Kapex has to be stored horizontally. Vertical storage is the only way that I could go. Today, I rec'd the BestFence system for the Kapex and hooked it into the homemade miter stand (pictured above.)
Fastcap recently improved on the stop. Now, it's rock solid. I slapped down some 8/4 oak and chopped up exact size matches in seconds, one after the other.  Very impressive.  I added two rollers, for the third hands, which will make great extension feeds for my planer. (My only criticism is that I would like to see a flip-lock to attach the fences rather than having to fiddle with a knob underneath the fence.) Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend this to a friend.

I know this is late but I just sold my beloved stationary miter station. I used the kreg top track and I loved it. I even added one to my cross cut sled. Here's the one I sold with the kreg track. I planned on build cabinet behind the track to house my hand tools but we are moving.

Could you explain further why the Kapex has to be stored horizontal?  Just curious.

It was in a recent thread. Apparently the grease in parts of the kapex can warm up and become runny in use. Then it runs out of the air vents if the saw isn't stored horizontally
 
id like to know if the kapex would work with the dewalt mitre saw stand. the dw 7023 or whatever it is lol. it fitted my friends makita 260mm mitre saw but one of the clamps only fitted with 1 bold. not good,
