stationary ct 22 boom arm mounted on workshop wall? which replacement hose ?????

hi all.

i am thinking of taking the boom arm off of my ct 22  to make it easier to bring on site. i was thinking of bolting it to the wall so that it can swing across over my bench and 1/3 of the shop. do you think this will work.

my other question is which new hose should i get to replace the one that is now (soon) perminently in the shop on the boom arm, should i get a 27mm or the 36 mm. i have a 27mm on the boom arm . i was thinking of getting the 36mm and a reducer(may not exist dont know yet) as this will allow me to use it on the scms ,router , planer etc, but also allow me to use it with the 27mm tools. 
is there any reason not to do this
 
Bolting your Boom Arm to the wall of your shop should work fine as long as you use some type of standoff (even a couple pieces of 2x4) to hold it away from the wall.  But, I don't see where you need to do this.  You should be able to readily remove and reinstall your Boom Arm when you need to transport your CT.  Disconnect the hoses and cords where they join, and remove the bolt that connects the upper tube -- the upper assembly can be removed with the cord and hose intact.  Then undo the rataining clip on the handle and loosen the hose clamp at the bottom of the lower tube -- now the lower tube can be removed.  So, only about a minute to remove the Boom Arm from the CT.  And it all goes back together just as fast.  Really, the only issue that I can find with the Boom Arm is when you install the D36 hose in the upper tube brackets -- to install or remove his larger hose requires that you loosen the brackets, and the bolts are just about too short to loosen without coming undone... 

If you are looking to get another hose, I certainly would recommend that you get the larger D36 hose.  If you can afford to, I would get it in one of the cleaning sets.  You can have a D27 Adapter made for you.

 
A cheap option although not color coordinated nor anti-static is to puchase a hose at Lowes or HD. They fit perfectly on the vac and are the same size as the 36mm hose. I am using the HD hose with no issues. I live in humid Louisiana so anti-static is not much of an issue. I have both a 36mm and 27mm on my boom arm. Just using velcro straps to hold the second hose on.

any chance you could post a picture of the HD hose you are using? Or any other info? Thanks!

Go HomeDepot.com. Product - RIDGID Universal Wet/Dry Vacuum Hose. Model #VT2570. It comes with a bunch of connector adapters also. $37. Now the Festool hose is nicer for sure but is $128 and I needed something quick and the HD hose has met my needs for now. Festool does have a really flexible non anti static 36mm hose for $75.50 and would be the preferred hose if you don't require the anti-static.
 
PeterK, Thanks for the info.  I will be picking one or two up tomorrow.  I have been throwing around the idea of a boom arm to go across my shop.  This will help keep the cost down.
 
Lowes sells a blue hose (of course) that comes without the extra adapters and costs even less. Actually, the Lowes hose is what is mounted on my boom arm and the HD hose is used like you are saying for extension when needed.
 
the reason i want to take it perminently off is that it will be a lot smaller to transport, i might make a support for the hose for when on site to keep it up high maybe make it out of a steel rod and bend it to shape, . i dont need the boom arm on site so the  space saved will be welcomed in the van, i think i have enough stuff to bring on site with out more.

i have a few hoses off of old vacum cleaners that the neighbours were throughing out ( dont laugh ye all do it to [wink]) , i might try these first
 
is there anywhere on this side of the pond that you can get  a 36mm -27m  hose reducer similar to the one Bob is selling. this would cost too much to buy off Bob and ship to ireland. can i make one myself out of parts. if s which ones

The parts you would need are as follows. I've just checked the prices on festool.ie for you, too:

487071 - D27 DM-AS, Reducing sleeve, antistatic; EUR15.73 each (you would need 2 of these, one for each end);
452384 - D27 MW-AS, Suction hose antistatic, per metre; EUR32.79/m

You would only need about 200-300mm of hose (maybe even less), but you would probably have to purchase a full metre. Alternatively you could simply shorten an existing 27mm hose by 200mm, if you have one & don't mind it being very slightly shorter.
 
how do the fittings 487071 attach to the 36mm  hose , do they slide into the 36mm hose fitting

I don't have a 36mm hose, but from the pictures in the associated threads it would appear that yes, the 27mm fitting is a push-fit into the 36mm fitting.

BTW, if you do decide you want to make one of these, I have one of the 27mm fittings and a short length of 27mm hose going spare...
 
i thought i would post an update.

jesse cloud PM me asking if i did this. yesterday
i hadnt then but decided today to do it.  i had been putting it off until i rearanged the shop in a few months when a water pumpa and softener are move out of the work shop. this will give me  8 feet by 4 feet of space minimun.
it was a PITA with out it on the vac
i decided to attach it with a tv aerial bracket

On the boom arm serving my work table where we do most of our TS55 sawing and routing the hose is 5m x 36mm AS

On the boom arms serving my work tables nearly always used for assembly and/or sanding the hoses are 5m x 27mm AS
 
Thanks Alan.  Looks like a solid connection there.  I'm off to the hardware store to find an aerial bracket! [big grin]

BTW. I asked Alan about this because I'm not comfortable with the WCR & Boom Arm combination.  I'm thinking that by moving the boom arm off the CT, I can place everything just where I want it.  I really like both the WCR and the Boom Arm, but they don't play well together in my shop configuration.
