The former owners of my home didn't seem to believe in proper interior painting. All of my upstairs trim work seems to be a coat of latex over the original (properly applied) oil based paint. You can easily run your fingernail down a section of trim and peel of the top layer of latex off in most spots. What is the best method for stripping down to a solid paintable surface? Won't a good oil primer adhere to the the oil semigloss if I can get the top latex removed? All these Festool's and I can't use them sand the trim because of the profiles. Any suggestions?

With all the profiles you'd best use a paint stripper especially made for latex. This stripper will only remove the latex paint and not the oil based paint.
