LOL. The 1/4" plywood is definitely much lighter than granite. It's really super lightweight.
Thanks for the warning about shellac odor and the suggestion for stain + clear acrylic. Luckily she doesn't care about the finish (or maybe it's just she knows that I won't paint/finish anything even if she asked :-[) so it's just going to stay as is. It's on the inside of door anyway so it'll only be visible the brief times that the doors are open.
