Nobody seems to know - see the same or similar questions being asked at http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=6876.0 and http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=5583.0

In case anyone recognises it, here is the mystery photo...

it WAS avaliable in the UK some months ago

now it seems to have dissapeared

axminster are now selling an adamik product at 190 pounds english

it aint as fancy as the festool and doesnt have the compressor

The stand appears to me that it may be variable in height, which would be a nice feature.  Reminds me of a typical hospital serving table for bed ridden patients, except for having a support at both ends of the table top.  There are several vendors of the table end of a vacuum holddowns that advertise in FWW (USA), and some of those offer components so you can make your own holddown table top if you want to.  Less than US $200 will get you one in USA (no vacuum source included).

EDIT:  Didn't stop to think about the loss of efficiency in dust collection while sawing indoors.  Sorry, Dave, for asking a favor without having thought it through.

Hi, Dave.  I've been very close to pulling the trigger on one of these for months, not for vacuum pressing but for vacuum clamping:

http://www.veneersupplies.com/product_info.php?products_id=248

I'm really starting to think that it might be faster to cut panels for carcases with a vacuum clamp and the new parallel/perpendicular guides compared to my jumbo MFT, with no loss in capacity or accuracy.  And when using the Domino or biscuit joiner, the vacuum clamps would seem to be faster than setting up the MFT to hold the pieces still.

I don't subscribe to FWW.  If it's not too much trouble, would you mind naming some names of the companies that advertise vacuum clamping components there?  Joe Woodworker sells some and has a tutorial on making them, but I'd almost always rather buy tools than make them, and this is certainly one of those times.

Regards,

John

I purchased the kit from Joe Woodworker and it has worked out very well.

its ok, you dont need to speak german

go to the german website       :-     festool.de

click on the products tab at the top (slightly different spelling in german but obvious)

scroll throught the pretty pictures and you will find it near the bottom

dead easy ;D

i didnt look for the roller table to put it on

As I stated in a previous reply to this question, whilst Festool now market the VAC-SYS, it is not the vacuum system in the photo!

Here are comparison photos of the mystery unit on page 17 of the Festool USA catalogue (on the left) and the Festool VAC-SYS (taken from the video):

Mystery_Vac_System.jpg

Obvious differences are:

  • The mystery unit uses orange as its signature colour, whilst Festool uses green
  • The side of the main vacuum pump is different - eg the position of the vacuum hose and the ventilation slots
  • The shape of the foot-operated release mechanism is completely different

In the mystery photo, it looks as though the vacuum pump is mounted in a Systainer with orange latches. Given the abundance of that colour, it's therefore likely to be from a (German?) company that uses orange as its signature colour.

It's been out here in Oz since Oct 08.

Presumably you are referring to the Festool VAC-SYS, rather than the orange-coloured system that meatplow was originally asking about?

Hi, Bijesh.  Thanks for the update.  I read your first post on the subject with much interest--nice job in "rigging and jigging" it to meet your needs and fit on the MFT.  Glad to hear it's still working out for you.  Do you use it only for clamping, or have you also been using it for veneering?

Regards,

John

Thanks. I have only used it for clamping so far. But do have plans to use it for veneering in the future.

Good Evening,

Thanks to all you for the feedback, what a great resource. I did discover, by accident, the the very thing I was searching for, it is available on the "land down under".  I hope this link works http://www.idealtools.com.au/festool_vac_sys it will give you all the information you will ever need on the FESTOOL VAC SYS. Can anyone guess when this will be available in the U.S.? I wonder if I can justify the cost?

Again, Please and Thanks for being a dependable crew.

I don't think anyone knows if or when the vacuum clamp will come to the States. Its been out over seas form over a year now I believe considering we usually get tools a year or so later maybe it isn't coming anytime soon. Each spring is when you came expect new tools to be released so until next year.

You probably all know already, but orange is Protool's colour (woodworking specialist part of Tooltechnic)  Perhaps it's their version of the VacSys.  I really want a VacSys, but need to put up my hourly rate if i'm going to buy one.  I'd also like a Protool drill (seems far suprior to the Festool one  ;D ;D ;D ;D)
