Hi,

Does anyone have a Sure fire method for getting the blade perfectly perpendicular to the saw base in a 55eq?  Are there any particular measuring instruments other than a machinists square that I could use to make the blade square to the base?

I have used a combination square ? it works but I never seem to be able to get the blade perfect to the base ? that is, square enough that would not require taking material to my planer for squaring up edges on rails and stiles.

The most accurate method would be to use a thick piece of scrap (2" would probably be good) make sure you have enough for the rail to sit flat on (two pieces of 2" x 4" would be fine) cut one edge to remove minimal material and then flip it lengthwise to bring the same edge upside down under the blade, cut halfway along, the edge will show a tapered lip if the saw is not set perfect and give you a clue to how much and in which direction to adjust.

This method of doubling the error gives perfect results, it's time consuming but you only have to get things perfect once.
