I bought this kit last fall to use on some teak, did a small project, put everything away but in the process apparently I accidently threw away the plastic "baseplate" that attaches to the foam pad which then attaches to the oil filled handle to spread the oil.  I sent an e-mail to Festool last week and their response was that there are no spare parts available for this!!  What??  This piece attaches and detaches from throw away products and I can't buy a replacement?
The kit is not useable without the piece of plastic baseplate, I have only used about 1/2 of one of the oils and a sanding pad but in order to get a new one I would have to spend $165.00 for a whole new kit.....  If this is true, I am reaching the end of my rope with Festool, can anyone offer a solution for me that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
Thanks,
CB

Sometimes the 'best' solutions are the simplest...and often the cheapest.

Can of high quality wipe on finish and a cut up old cotton T-shirt.

The best bet is to order an applicator kit which consists of the applicator bulb, base, sponge and oil in a tin box. The price is $37.

Which can be seen as spare parts, coming as a kit. Price point (if you deduct the sponge and the filling of the bulb) isn't that bad, given that you get stuff that tends to break (the tin box might get dented or rust, the membrane in the cap might rupture, the bulb might get stiff and refuse to inflate after being pressed together and the hooks on the base might wear with time).

Cheese,
Have you personally bought these oils after you ran out of oil from the large kit?  I was told by the local Festool dealer Woodcraft, that it was just for the oil in the applicator bulb (but he didn't have any in stock) that's why I sent the email to Festool in the first place.  I have plenty of oil, all I need is the baseplate but Festool and the local Woodcraft said the baseplate wasn't available at all without buying the Full $160 kit!!  Were they wrong?  I can handle paying $37 for a 10 cent piece of plastic, I guess......

The full story:  This isn't a small furniture project, I'm finishing the teak decks on my 45' Chris Craft Constellation and I have many miles on my hands and knees using this exact method, but it's really messy and very inefficient when compared to the sponge and applicator I used on the lazarette hatch last fall, so I really want to get my hands on another applicator!

Thanks,

I did it the other way around, the applicator came first (as the set was on backorder at that time and I had a small project with a tight deadline), has the benefit (since I didn't accidently dumped the base plate) that I can go stereo on big areas now (by myself or through enslaveing someone to lend a hand without getting it dirty)...

There are three product# for each oil (HD oil example): the applicator kit OS-Set HD 0,3 (#498060, one bulb, one membrane cap, tin box, applicator base, sponge, manual) is a ready to use kit while the RF HD 0,3 l/2 (#498064, two bulbs with oil and two membrane caps) is a click-in refill for the applicator (or replacement for the bulbs/membranes in case these go south) and then there is the RF HD 5l (#498067, canister to refill an empty bulb, best price for the oil and a good workout as you have to shake it up prior to use).

The outdoor oil kit is 498062, I assume that's the one you'll need. I just stumbled upon this option as Ekat does not offer spares and this was my way around the problem.

No, I have not purchased this kit yet but I expect to within the next month or so. I have purchased the oil refill kits though. I believe they come with 2 oil bulbs.

Would love to see some pictures of the Chris Craft when you're finished.  [not worthy] [not worthy]

Cheese,
Here's a portion of the stern deck, lots of work still left to do.
