I am planning a trip to Lund University, in Sweden later this month and would love to visit a furniture or millwork shop.  Are there any members, or friends of members, who live in Iceland (two day layover), Copenhagen, Denmark, Malmö, Lund, or Stockholm who would like to exchange ideas?

Hi,

Belated  welcome to the forum!  [smile]

Hope you get some help with your trip. I know that there are some FOG members in that part of the world.

Seth

I would try to visit the Gransfors Bruks factory and museum. It's a couple of hours from Stockholm.

Don't know what expectations you have exactly but I would visit Skansen village.
Check for a little info on a blog here

Hi

I don't know where you'll be staying during your visit at Lund but since you mention Copenhagen one specific furniture factory comes to my mind.

Rud Rasmussen is an old furniture factory / carpentry situated in Copenhagen. They are making some of the modern danish furniture that has been known world wide for at least half a century.

Check their website here.

I believe that they have a showroom and their factory at the same adress (I haven't visited them).
And I know that from time to time they arrange workshop tours. You can find information about opening hours and email address on their website.

Kind regards
Henrik

Hi I live in Malmö.

I have no workshop and do not manufacture furniture more than in the imagination but has a sprinter as workman with  a good amount of Festool. I like to meet for coffee och beer when you are here.

Sent a text, mail och pm.

I'm not in Copenhagen (currently), and I'm not aware of a shop per say other than what Henrik pointed out.
I do know that Fritz Hansen - http://www.fritzhansen.com/en/fritz-hansen/contact/HQ-and-Management is just north Copenhagen, but not heard about it being possible to see manufacturing.

But if you're visiting and are looking for furniture stores then you can head up Store Kongensgade. Its close to the Marble Church and the Royal Palace. You can find NytiBo there.

http://www.montana.dk/home/

The latter one is on Bredgade.

Illums Bolighus also have a variety of european furniture.

Paustian is further away, reasonable accessible by the s-tog (t train). http://en.paustian.com/index.jsp

Henrik may have other ideas.

If you check out that 'section' you'll also be close to Nyhavn where you'll find the smallest house 'width wise' "Nyhavn 4" as well as a lot of history. The house is just a sliver really. You can touch both sides of the walls no problem.

Don't miss a visit to a Danish Pastry store like Reinh van Hauen - http://www.rvh.dk/historie.html Other exists as well, but that one was the one I could find. Get a 'real Danish'.

There is one on Store Kongensgade 45

The Brewery next to Tivoli is a good place, at least last time I was in town.

In Iceland try the Blue Lagoon. Take one of the tour busses to see the nature. It can be on the expensive side, in comparisone to the us, just so you know.

If in Stockholm do take a walk through Gamla Stan as well.

If you are in Stockholm go see the museum on the Vasa - its a warship that was built around 1625 and brought up from the Stockholm Harbour, after a very short life at sea. Its an amazing piece of work, and interesting history. All wood of course.

Mattias,
We are in town.    Is 5 Thursday the best time for you meet?  Friday morning is a possibility.
Planning on visiting Malmö tomorrow. Let me know, I'll accommodate your timing.
Best
Everett

It was pleasant to meet you this morning,  I hope to see you again.  Pm me if you have time to go to a local festool dealer on Monday

I met with a local craftsman today on Lund Sweden. He is young, motivated, and like minded.
The connection was made as I planned this trip from Boston.
Cheers to Seth and the Festool crew that made it possible.  I recommend that all members try to do the same when traveling near or far.  It fosters a sense of community missing in so much of the news these days.
