I joined a week or so ago looking for ideas on building a unit for some sys-az drawers I bought back in October from FFX, I saw Jonny's video, which I enjoyed & it got me thinking of what I could make.

My problem is I don't have a lot of space, this is a cabinet I built a few years ago

As you can see Festool fever has taken hold & I've out grown my first effort slightly  [embarassed]
I needed to build something that fit in this space preferably out of materials I had to hand, so this is what I came up with.

I realise this is higher than Festool recommend but not only is it fixed to the wall but I also made some locking adjustable feet so I could accurately level the unit.

The frame is simply dominoed together & made from off cuts of pine joists, I took a few photos as I progressed these are they if anyone is interested.

Hope this thread is OK, it's my first so I've probably got something wrong so mods please feel free to delete it.
Also apologies for the photos I only have a I-phone & it doesn't like the fluorescent lighting in the shop.

Cheers,

Doug.

Hi first of  [welcome]

Really nice job build photos are cool (but you do feel like no one really wants to see them lol)I'm in the process of making some sys ports myself . And they will be of similar height to yours .my plan is to fix the top 3 shelves for sys 1's so you can just lift them out as I feel there is no need for a pull out that high also will have a fixed shelf a the bottom for sys 5's as I feel they are too heavy for drawers .and I will make everything in between pull out for the rest

Thanks for the welcomes & comments  [smile]

You're right Mick, I figured everyone knows what work in progress looks like but then thought heck I may as well. The ports sound good, I look forward to seeing them.

Hi Doug,

[welcome]

Nice to see another Twitter crossover with the forum!

Lovely work on the old and new storage. Did the deal on the PDC push you over the edge? One box too many?  [wink]

When you get two minutes, drop by http://festoolownersgroup.com/member-connections/gb-crew/ and introduce yourself.
[EDIT: Just discovered you already have done!]

Good to see you here Garry, I had the drawers before I got the PDC both of which I blame your tweets for,  [eek] [big grin]
I'm slowly working my way round here, some good stuff.

Cheers,

Doug.

Doug, really nice build and photos.... Absolutely nothing wrong with the height, as you said, it is anchored to the wall and leveled at the base.  Thanks for sharing!

Gary

Great post! I DO have one criticism for you though:

You should have built TWO of them! Haven't you learned what happens with systainers yet? They multiply like tribbles!!!!

[wink]

Doug B.,

A fresh take on a systainer cabinet.  I like the open air design.  The build looks solid with a minimum of material.  Thanks for the photos!

Very efficient use of material and space.  Thanks for the build photos.

Interesting that you chose not to make them height adjustable for different size Systainers.

And welcome to the FOG -

I do have another to build, it will house the 3 drawers I have left & will fit under the bench, just need to clear out under there before I start that build.

That never crossed my mind Neil, perhaps it was just subliminal, my brain subconsciously  deciding if it wasn't adjustable I couldn't buy more gear [big grin]
