Here are a couple of photos of the new-to-our-shores Sys-Centrotec-Set, item # 493633 from Festool.

Availability is estimated at "late 2007" for "possibly around $260" but the rep was pretty sketchy on the last bit. It looks like it's available in the UK for ?170.21 which translates to ~$350 US right now. The vacuformed plastic felt like a heavier guage than the standard Systainer inserts, but I could be wrong.

An Aussie site describes it as: "A wide range of drill bits, screwdriver bits and adaptors contained in a Systainer case. The set comprises: 37 x Pozi bits 1 - 3, 20 x Philips bits 1 - 3, 40 x Torx bits 10 - 30, 8 x Centrotec spiral bits 3 - 6.5, 16 x Drill bits 3 - 6.5, 5 x Wood spiral bits 3 - 8, 3 x 100mm Pozi bits 1 - 3, 3 x 100mm Philips bits 1 - 3, 4 x 100mm Torx bits 15 - 30, 1 x Countersink, 1 x Bitholder, 1 x Magnetic bit holder, 1 x Hookdriver & 2 x Centrotec chucks"

That is a beautiful set. Makes me want a c12.
Any Kapex sightings?

None. The official word was "it's still in development". I can only assume that meant the 110VAC motor version since we all know the Brits at least have it.

You are right, it is a heavier guage and the removable top-right tray has a bottom which makes it very rigid. Festool also supply a set of peel off labels printed with the screwdriver, bit and drill sizes as shown in the photos below. The set is an excellent companion to the drills but does not have any slotted screwdriver bits and only comes in......wait for it.....metric sizes. ;D

Pat, Is the set still being offered in the UK. I had seen it on the Axminster site about two years ago, but when I inquired to buy it they advised it was no longer available. Thanks Chad

...Nor square drive bits.

They are still around at various dealers but are not listed on Festool UK's site at the mo. I don't think it was a big seller as it was around the 170GBP mark. Axminster shifted their stock, as you say, about 2 years ago when it was on sale at 139GBP. Have a look at EBay, German dealers have them at about 120GBP plus postage.

You are right, no square drives as they are not too popular over here in Europe. The Torx bits have really taken over with the excellent SPAX TStar screws.

I have a square bit which I use in my Kreg jigs but it has to be mounted in the magnetic bit holder as it will not fit directly into the Centrotec chuck.

Pat. Thanks for the info. Any German dealer  you would suggest? I am also looking for another Basis table "table only" which  is a discontinued item. I tried Festool UK headquarters and did not receive an anything back except a picture of the new modular system. I know they must have a Basis table in stock somewhere in Germany they would like to unload.  Hope it has stopped raining. Listening to Radio 4 on the internet and it sounds like a bloody mess. I hope Gordon knows more than Captin Birdeye when he goes on a walk about to put on his wellies. Cheers. Chad

I have used several German dealers who advertise on EBay.de and have never been let down. You just need to see who has what in stock and send them a message. Most speak English or use Babel Fish to translate. I am sure there are Basis tables out there or send Riri a PM. He is in Bruxelles and I am sure he could check the Belgian Festool dealers for you.

I really feel sorry for all those poor beggars suffering from the floods. It like a Brit version of New Orleans even down to the pathetic and tardy response of the Government.

All of the hype from the AWFS show and I feel like my parents went to Vegas and all I got was a lousy T shirt.

Yes the drill kit looks nice but what about the Kapex? Any other new toys?

No Kapex nor anything else new was found at the Festool booth. They did have a cool "slow motion exploded view" Domino joiner in an aquarium, though.

Here's a few more pics. Sorry I haven't had more time, but I've been making sawdust.

BTW, the SawStop Contractors Model was on display. Woo hoo! Estimated release is later this year. Estimated price is $1,500 INTRODUCTORY. BOO!!!!!!!!!
