SYS COMBI SIZE AND INSERT FOR TID 18 T18 SYS COMBI SYSTAINER

Hi there

So I received my TID 18 the other day and so I'm looking at storage solutions. I currently have my T18/3 in a SYS-COMBI with a selection of screws and fittings in the drawer and would ideally like to put both the TID18 and the T18/3 in the same (maybe larger SYS-COMBI). Does anyone know if the insert is available as a separate item yet (part no?) and whether it (the insert) fits the previous gen Systainers (Ive already found out the the older inserts don't fit in the new Systainers lol). Also what size Systainer or SYS -COMBI would be required - I see that the Festool Cordless impact drill TID 18 C 3,1-Set T18 (CODE: 576493) is supplied in the new SYS3 Systainer.

Due to the lockdown here in the uk I haven't had much chance to use it yet! Initial impressions are good - nice in the hand - well balanced. Its certainly very powerful - more so than the sub compact brushless Makita I have been using the last 18 months. There's a free battery promo here in the Uk so Id think Ill trade up my new 5ah to the new slimline battery to reduce the overall height - with the standard one it stands as tall as the 18/3.

On the up side the chuck takes a standard non Festool torsion bar impact driver bit - on the downside it doesn't take a cetrotec magnetic bit holder as the shank is too long so you'll need to buy with the new Festool impact bit holder or use a non Festool one for working with bits that aren't available with the torsion bar.

Overall my first impressions are all good - its a beast and I'm sure I'll not want for power with it. I just drove a 4x50 poi 2 clean through a bit of 55mm kiln dried American white oak with batting an eyelid.

Any specific questions that I can answer I'd be happy to try!

When you say it I supplied in a new sys3 that really refers to the new style “Systainer3” the ‘187’ is the relevant bit. That’s the height in mm. It’s 180mm without the 7mm feet.

You’d have to look at the old style t-loc dimensions to be sure! But I can tell you the new sys3 187 the impact kits come in is vaguely 25mm smaller than an old sys3 and 25mm bigger than an old sys2.

I also just got the TID 18 because of the battery promotion. I never liked the noise of impacts so don’t really care for them, but every now and then I have a big type of job where one would be real handy. .
Also haven’t used it much in the lockdown, but can say that after 10 min of playing, it is as small, light and powerful as the standard non brushless Makita impact that has been common place the last 4-5 years, but has a lot more control for smaller stuff through a combination of trigger sensitivity, power modulation and 3speed settings. It been laying around the house and I’ve grabbed it to do several ‘delicate’ screwing jobs that an impact has no real right to be doing. . Been impressed with that. As for real world usage assessment on absolute power, reliability and value. . . That’ll take years to asses I guess.

A note on the compact batteries, I LOVE them for drills. My two T18s have them and it is a big factor in my love for these drills. The 5.2ah batteries really weight them down unnecessarily. I’m not weak, I just enjoy ergonomics and comfort in my work wherever possible. .

I'd guessed that I might need a sys-combi 3 instead of the combi 2 I use now - the combi 3 has a 180 high top compartment - I just don't know whether the insert (which will be made to fit the new style systainers) with fit into the older stye combi 3- assuming the insert is yet available as a spare part?

The external footprint is the same. I guess they sacrificed some bottom width for the "racking" stuff with the Sys3, so newer inserts should (guess // think // no hands experience!) fit the older systainers. Older inlays might fit after some cutting, like with the classic and T-Loc insert intercompatibility.

I assume you have all the bits to test this yourself, but before chucking the insert for my new tid18 I won’t use, I tested it in an old T-loc. You can see it below in a SYS II. If fits fine with a bit of persuasion.

So I assume any insert for the T18+TID18 will also fit fine in a SYS III.

Yes thanks I was able to check that myself too and also that older inserts don’t fit so easily into the new Systainers.

I still can’t find the part number for the insert for the two drill though and I don’t know if the ‘older’ SYSCOMBI3 is high enough to fit the drills in.

Just contact festool UK about part number for the insert you are after. I imagine there may be some wait time before it is available given the recent release date.

I’m not sure about combi sys dimension as I’ve never been interested in those, but you’ll need whatever version that has the equivalent of a sys III on the top.

Just to let you know that I finally got round to ordering the SYS Combi 3 and the TID Set insert recently (having had a long conversation with Festool UK and them confirming that it would all fit as intended) and so they arrived today. The insert fits into the SYS Combi 3 okay but the lid wont close once you put the drills in [eek] so I have an insert with no spare Systainer to put it in and a £70 SYS Combi 3 that I didnt really need  [mad]

Just file/cut the bottom part of the insert a bit or try putting it "upside down".
The SYS3 has a different handle location so the "higher" depth places in the lid area are on different locations compared to a T-Loc.

I added a T18 to my PDC drill and managed to combine the plastic inserts so as to store both one in SYS2.
