Sys3 Toolbox organization

I totally agree with the 'engineer' design ;)  As far as Tanos TB availability is concerned, Makita sells it in teal.

Yes, but Makita doesn't sell T-Loc or Sys³ Systainers.

They do sell the previous rolley. On Dutch Amazon it's #1 sold in it's category. But that's perhaps because lots of stuff isn't in the right category.

That's correct.  However, they did embrace the SYS-TB which is in the T-Loc line (fits both classic and T-Loc's).  In that case, they didn't even have their own molding - it's just a straight up recolour of the Tanos.

There is no sys-TB from Makita.
Whatchu talkin 'bout, Willis? 🤔

A search for Makita tool box system will bring up results for both the open top tote and the cantilever box.

And there is this clone to Festool's SYS-SB:

If only Makita had also made a sys-roll.....
Not a 2-wheeler!

Yeah I have two of the smaller Makita ones. They are just Tanos ones with other color. Local Amazon had them for 17 euros  [tongue]

Well, here’s an attempt..

First out; the handle and the narrow opening by itself makes it a challenge organising any sort of order in this box. Second; the height inside is far to low for carrying half of my tools standing (if you, like me, want to put a systainer on top, and indeed lay down the handle. This leaves even some pliers out of the question. I’m 2/3rds done. There will be minor changes, and they need to be modular.

The front part is meant to carry drills; C18 with 3.1Ah battery clears with a Millimeter, my 12V Makita’s with 2Ah batteries - a Millimeter to tall, must route off 2 Millimeters on a 4mm base..
Still, it can in this configuration carry 2-3 drills. If the drills are in, the handle must fold backwards..

Rearmost portion are made somewhat modular, the holder that carry screwdrivers and pliers rides on a pair of runners, so it can slide sideways or be lifted out totally. I’ll make 1-2 modules that can be lifted out easy as well, hopefully these can be used in the old toolbox as well. I’ve removed the lid to be able to make some sort of insert, but the goal has been to have access to the tools with the lid closed, so far so good.. but the handle needs moving getting good access..

I almost regret starting this, it’s too much work for very little. Still, it’s now close to being useful.
I’m excited to see others solutions, as this is a tricky one.

I’ll post some more pics when next (and final!) steps are done.

Clone would indicate it would be a ripoff or something that's hasn't the intellectual ownership. It is both Tanos, so no clone, just  Makita branded instead of Festool

Can someone who has the Systainer 3 Toolbox (or perhaps a couple people for confirmation) tell me precisely what the inside diameter is on the small holes where you would put a screwdriver? I don't have any calipers but want to order some metal rods that will slide in there perfectly with zero wiggle room. thanks

Average of 9.8mm on mine, but there are differences due to the moulding process. You might want to go to ream them out to 10mm if you want a consistent fit.

Yup, about 9,7 on mine.
So, you won’t get the fat slotted screwdrivers in. Not too much else either unless reaming the holes a bit.

Thanks for the fast replies. Fluctuations in size never even occurred to me and Im liking the idea of using a 10mm drill bit to make them all uniform. Could probably even bore that small amount out by hand instead of risking a high speed drill either getting to hot or going a bit sideways. As im typing this another idea came to me... either use a tap (if possible) to thread the holes and then screw in the metal rods or use some press fit threaded inserts. What Im working on is turning a Sys-Toolbox into a Sys-MFT and looking for ways to secure MDF board to the top.

That’s a good idea you have there.. threading the holes and a MFT on top.
- Are you gonna make it open like I did? - It’s a bit work, but doable.

And yes, hand drilling having the feel of the drill bit gets you safer. Even in slow speed on a drill it grabs fast..

For my needs I won't need the lid to open and like the idea of it staying closed... sealed together as much as possible for stability reasons. Not that ill be pounding on it but as a "work surface" the less moving parts the better. Then undoing 4 quick screws to get MDF off when not needed as a work surface
