Systainer bench: base / feet?

Hi there.

I'm building TimTool's sysport bench.  And so far, so good.  However, the base is made of panel stock (3/4" ply) and I am somewhat concerned by both moisture and the uneven floor of my garage.  Is there such thing as a rubber addition to toughen up the edge of plywood?

Alternatively, what are everyone's favorite levelers?

Thanks!

Tom

You could put T-molding on the bottom edge.

Seal it with something before you add feet or whatever, just to be safe.

Why not put it on casters, with locks/brakes. If your worried about the bench moving fix it to the wall with some toggles. That way you can move it around easy when you need to. If you get the same height with casters as the MFT (if you got one) it will make a good outfeed table or support for big boards. I try to make all benches in my shop the same height for that reason.

Glad to see you are building it!
The bench isn't really designed to support itself on casters, it is designed to sit steady on the floor like a kitchen cabinet.
Mine sits in an insulated workspace, but the concrete floor isn't insulated. After 3 years there is no sign of swelling on the base.
I also have similar benches in a work space that is not insulated and open to 4 winds, there i put strips of black plastic under the base (called "diba" the plastic they lat between layers of bricks to stop the moist going up) and it keeps the mdf from swelling.

Hey, Timothy.

Yes.  I am excited.  This is sort of my first cabinet, ever.  Well, second.  Close enough.

I actually ended up using plywood at the last second, rather than mdf.  But other than that, all is good.

Good job on the plans.  Pretty darn detailed.  (One question:  I'm about to add the back.  How do I make sure the vertical panels are 410 MM apart before adding the part?  Should I make spacers?

Part of it has to do with my concrete floors cracks, in the garage.  Sort of a mess.

For leveling feet in my shop I use elevator bolts.  Available in lots of sizes.  I use round stick on rubber feet from the big box store on them.

I've been playing around with various levellers for a workshop project, and have decided on some relatively inexpensive Height Adjusters from HÄFELE (Part Number 637.67.910).

Depending on which country you are in, and therefore whose specifications you believe, they can support up to 150KG or 175KG each foot, and have 25mm of adjustment via a 6 mm hex key, flat-bladed screwdriver, or Phillips screwdriver. They also have an integrated plastic glide (that is removable, incidentally).

I've removed the prongs with a file from the ones I am using.
