Systainer clone

OK, lost in translation then ?  [unsure]

Sure sounds shaky, but let's see how long it takes for them to arrive.

So. I called them this morning and as promised they just sent out a partial shipment of my order.

So I might be able to give you a quick review of whatever is coming next week.
I'll be on holiday after that, so the final stuff will have to wait until August.

Another quick update. The partial shipment was delivered to my neighbors today, so I should be able to share some pics this evening.
Is there anything special you want to see?

I will most likely not manage to get any video done before my holidays. So that will have to wait until August... sorry. [emoji51]

Super, i'm curious. I ordered some toolboxes and assortment boxes a bit more then 2 weeks ago and i'm  waiting on their delivery....

Great! Some comments on the general quality and size compared to systainer would be great! If you have any sys-az's: will the auer box fit?

And pictures! [cool]

So. Here I am and there they are.
Came nicely packaged and waited in front of my door, due to the friendly neighbors!  [thumbs up]

What's in the box?
- 2x drawers with small boxes inside (Sortimo-like)
- 2x Sys-2 Equivalent (1x grey, 1x red)
- 1x Sys-3 Equivalent (red)
- 1x Sys Toolbox Equivalent in grey.

First thoughts, you ask?
1) The red is really red!  [eek] [big grin]
2) Build quality is nice. I'd say the T-Loc systainers are a little more "refined". But overall, I am quite happy with my purchase.
3) They are slightly bigger than T-Locs. Also the square interior suggests more space on the same footprint.
4) For the Sys-2 size, the T-Loc weighs in at 1506 g, The Auer Version weighs in at 1814g.
5) The T-Loc Top seems more rigid than the Auer.
6) The Auer 'Base' seems more rigid than the T-Loc (due to the locking mechanism etc. in the front)
7) The "molded-in" rubber on the opening-latches on the Auer are nice.
8) To lock a couple on each other, you need to slide them horizontally/flat backwards. If you try to lock in the back and then put down the front, the lock in the front will not engage. (At least on the first trials...)
9) Angle on the top tilting back is the same on both.
10) The Auer Hardware seems a little less precise, although it might need some break-in.
11) The Auers mostly need to be opened with two hands.
12) The Sort-Boxes are nice with the clear lid and the spring mechanism on the lid.

Please see the pics below for additional points. I took a yellow box out of the Festool Sys-Sort to compare for size. (Spoiler: Not a match!)

What I can say so far is that these are really nice boxes for the price.
I can't wait to get the rest of the shipment to really put things together.
They are meant to put order into my non-tools (general painting accessories, wires, soldering etc.) and for this, they are great and I'm sure they'll serve their purpose.

Any questions?
Specific test/picture requests?
[poke]

Excellent! I like that you compared/contrasted the Auer Pro directly to a known quantity, specifically the Tanos Sys II. That's super helpful. And, since you so kindly offered, how about some photos showing the boxes with the lids opened? I'd like to see the inside of the carcass and the underside of the lids.

Also, I see now that in order to open the Auer "Pro' lid one must slide the two visible lighter-colored latches in towards each other (requiring two hands, as you indicated). I guess this what is meant by the manufacturer's reference to a "spring-loaded lid." I initially misunderstood this to mean that the lid literally springs open when a latch is released. So, two spring-loaded latches and not a spring-loaded lid. Got it.

Thanks again! :)

See inside-pics attached...

The lid, at least on the clear view sort cases is actually spring loaded with a mechanism at the back of the sides, shortly in front of the hinge. See pic as well.

I need to check on the Systainers themselves, but I think they only have a normal hinge...

Do they fit in the Sys-AZ-drawers? That would be great, but i'm doubtfull if it will fit. The inside dimension of the Sys-AZ are 395x 300 mm and the Toolbox is 400 x 300 mm. But the difference is only 0,5 mm, so who knows....

Great review and pictures! Looks awesome so far! The tool boxes seems to be very well built and so does the smaller boxes. Hopefully they will also fit the SYS-AZ, considering the small difference in size.

I just ordered a couple of boxes myself for various electrical tools.

BTW: The size of the small bins are equal to the Sortimo system bins.

Awesome! Definitely looks like a viable option! Thank you for posting all the pics!

I don't know about SYS-AZ, because I don't have any.

I checked the Sort boxes against a drawer from a Combi-Sys. Does not really fit. But the Sort-drawer almost fits into the drawer in the Combi-SYS...

This thread is a little old but I wanted to know if these are still recommended? I’m pretty impressed with the product and price.

Do the red / yellow / small boxed in the sort boxes differ in size from those in the T-Loc systainers? I know the classic systainers have differently sized containers compared to the T-Loc's.

With the classic systainer they were integer multiples of 54x54 with a height of 63

With the T-Locs they switched to 49x49 with a height of 71mm

And the total amount of the smallest boxes you could fit increased from 32 in an odd arrangement to a nice 35 (in 7x5 grid).

Auer lists outer dimensions of 52x52x63. Which makes me wonder if it's compatible with neither or they just measured it below the top and it's actually the same als the old boxes for the Classic Systainers.

It almost seems as if every other brand has the same system with the colored small boxes but changes the dimensions by 2 mm  [crying]

If you fill up a systainer with screws it becomes too heavy to stack and carry as a stack anyway. Then I'd rather have these metal boxes;https://www.amazon.de/Kleinteilekoffer-EuroPlus-Metall-44-23/dp/B00314SKVI/

I have the Auer bins and they are interchangeable with a Sortimo iboxx. I believe the iboxx uses the same bins as Festool.

So you recommend them?

I’m trying to figure out how much ~10 cost, including shipping to the US. They won’t ship but will let me send them a UPS/TNT/DHL labels.

But are you sure? The given dimenions are different between the Festool T-loc colored (red, yellow, blue, green, orange) bins and the Auer bins.

The Systainer Classic bins are closer in given dimensions (same height, 2mm wider).

The Auer boxes do definitely not match the T-Loc versions.
They also do not match the grey SYS-Combi boxes.

I am still using the Auer Systainers for part of my organization, but keep the woodworking stuff limited to T-Loc for interlocking of the Systainers.

Any specific questions you need answered, let me know, I can take additional pics etc. if needed.

I don't have any SYS 1 boxes, so I can't confirm they are interchangeable. I do have a Sortimo i-boxx and I can confirm that the Auer assortment bins are interchangeable with those. They are not the same, the profile on the bottom is different, but they do interchange. I do like the Auer containers and would recommend them. I prefer the T-Loc systainers, but for the cost the Auer containers are a better option. My primary complaint is that the Auer containers have more play in the latching and interlocking. When you pick up a stack there will be some slack, a stack of T-Locs feels more rigidly connected. They are more difficult to open and close one handed. You can do it, but the T-Loc is way easier.

The lid on the assortment boxes is also not as rigid. If you shake them roughly and there are empty spots next to the bins, you can displace the bins. The Sortimo containers hold the bins much tighter. I would still buy the Auer containers again because of the price point and the performance is still very good.

I purchased one of each of the tool boxes, plus a 400mm x 300mm assortment box, and a collapsible crate for ~$120. I think it was ~$50 to ship using DHL to the western US. Note that some items are made in different factories, and need to be picked up by your shipper from each location, so shipping may not be as efficient depending on what you purchase.

Thanks, that’s very helpful! My need is for storage in my shop so your highlighted downsides are less of an issue for me. I’m probably going to mount them on drawer sliders.

My research had lead me to DHL for shipping, so it’s good to know that’s the route you took.

One thing I noted is buying empty assortment boxes and separate bins is cheaper than a kit. A bit weird but it saves another 10%!

I’m going to order a few of the small ones to test them out before I buy ~8 of the big ones :)

Ben
