From what I read, the option to obtain different colored latches from Festool will be available soon.  What's the secret to removing and replacing those latches without damaging the systainer?

Just twist the latch a little bit then pull it out.  I have done it several times and have vever damaged either the systainer or the latch.

What Frank said, but a little more detail - open the latch so it's pointing straight out from the systainer, then gently rotate (A tab at each side fits into slots in the sides of the channel) - the plastic has enough flex in it to rotate enough to lift one tab clear of the slot - to install the new one - reverse the procedure

What Frank said, and what Steve said with more detail, but now with pictures:

Latch in closed position:

Open the latch to it's normal open position:

Now force the latch open even further - don't worry, you won't break it!!! Once it's opened past it's detent, it will hang down freely:

Now, simply twist the latch - you don't need a lot of force for this, it should come out fairly easily:

wow, how many festool fans does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Three.

One who knows how to do it but doesn't explain it very well.

One who explains it well.

One to take pictures.

Thanks for all the info.  You guys are right - it's pretty straightforward.

So when the order comes in do you have your three man crew lined up yet?  Sounds like a great oppurtunity to get the job done quickly and kick back with some beers  ;)

No, I've only got about a half dozen systainers to modify - I think I can handle it.    However, I will implement your final idea!  Tried a new one (to me) the other day - Unibroue's Chambly Noire - a very good, very drinkable black ale.  That should help relieve the stress of swapping out all those latches!  ;D

Hi,

You may as well have one of those insulated systainer coolers on hand.

Didn't know they had such things - will they fit in the freezer?

Hi,

You can find them here http://www.kofferfunshop.de/systainers/systainers.html?osCsid=44934412add22b5fc8edeb3c3beef1a8  They are NAINA , but then again I am not sure were you are.    You can order them if you don't mind the shipping costs etc.  You could also line one yourself.  I have also seen an actual Festool version on Ebay occassionally with a lounging polar bear on the label. 8)

Interesting link - thanks!  I'm in the U.S.  How come Festool doesn't bring in the entire line of systainers (I don't think the UL labeling applies to them)?  Given the Dollar to Euro conversion factor today, that could be a painful do-it-yourself order!
