I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. Just so you have some background on me and my daily tool use....I am a general contractor / re-modeler with a lean towards outdoor construction. I've been in business for 10 years and love what I do (most days). I use my tools hard but I take A LOT of care of things that I buy and I can honestly say, I almost NEVER lose or break a tool. Almost anything that's ever happened to my tools has been because of misuse from an employee.
As a recent Festool purchaser I was excited about possibly converting all my tools into Festool (currently mostly DeWalt and Bosch) simply because I thought they may be more accurate in their functionality, more durable, and much easier to organize in my enclosed trailer (Systainers).
My first purchase was the RO125 and a CT26 combo. I've been quite pleased by their performance to this point. I then purchased a DX93 for an upcoming project. Finally, I purchased three SYSIII Systainers to help to move some of my other-brand tools into a system that could be "standardized" in shelving that I was building for my enclosed trailer (a remodel if you will).
What a way to start my first discussion....with a complaint, well, maybe not a true complaint but an issue. I find that the rather thin walls of the Systainers seems suspect to me. I've been using mine for about 3 or 4 months now and I've already noticed that there are a few small chips out of the lip on the bottom of the boxes that goes up under the lid when it closes. I suspect this happened when the lid and the bottom are out of alignment when closing them.
This brings me to my point. The walls of the Systainers are so thin that they flex (racking would be a better term) if they are set down on even the smallest surface that is uneven (outside on patios, driveways, lawns, etc). The SYSII's aren't nearly as bad which makes sense since they are shorter and therefore more rigid from an aspect ratio.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Am I alone on this?
