Forrest,

I think you got me beat.... mine says 7/96..... Here I've been a (beige) Festool owner for 11 years and didn't even know it. I guess one company in Germany was making the same unit under a lot of different names... and colors? The space between "Made in" and "Germany".... do you suppose it used to say "W" for West at one time and later was filed off the mold?

This brings me to deviate from the subject a little (actually a lot), but I recall once seeing what we know as the MFS400/700 Routing Templates being offered under another name. Wish I could remember the website or name.... and then there's Lamello's now coming in what we call Systainers.... Seems like a lot of subcontracting going on in Germany?

Gary Nichols

Gary,

The Company was called GEAT. Festool's "sisier" company is Tanos and nthey are the ones making systainers for a whole bunch of other companies  for  a number of years.

Bob

Hi Bob,

I've Google'd Tanos, Protool and Tooltechnic before, but GEAT is a new name to me.... Didn't find much about it on Google either. I did see that an off-road company called Red Rhino Products was importing "Tanos Systainers/Gear Boxes" back in 2004, but the broken links & inability to open their homepage tells me they're no longer in business. But I can see some Sustainer's in the back of this Range Rover:
http://www.boykindesign.com/red/index.htm

Don't know about that roof tent... if Nature calls in the middle of the night....

But I'm still very curious about the MFS templates... Does Festool make them exclusively or does someone else make them for festool and others? I swear I saw it on a website under another name..... really...

I wonder where else they will spring up?

That is a totally brilliant suggestion, and I think you've hit the nail on the head! I guess another possibility is East Germany...?

I can't immediately answer the MFS question, but the Systainers are also used by Metabo, another German manufacturer of expensive power tools, who call them Metaboxes. The following is taken from the Metabox page of their brochure, and clicking on it will open up the full PDF page:

For a short history of the company, seehttp://www.metabo.co.uk/History.5008+M535bf474fb3.0.html

Gary. Look under Specific Tools and Accessories/MFS notes /Feb 3 2007/Markus S. He has a link to the 4 pages that Woodworkers Depot used to market the Geat system in the US before Festool took the product on. It is a nice setup for making fast router jigs that are easy to adjust and clamp to the work piece. Chad

Thanks Chad,

I knew I hadn't imagined it.... but the website I saw was in the US and they still offered the system for sale.... I swear....

Hi,

Sounds like the Turbo Brush would be too finicky for my carpeting. Too bad.  Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a powered brush head (electric) that does not require a special hose?

Seth

srs

I have a couple of old Electrolux canister vacs in the attic...both with power head brushes. All they need is a standard plug end put on the external cord and they can be plugged in to an extension cord....which can plug into the CT....with the cord wrapped/attached around the CT's hose. But at that point, I might as well just USE the Electrolux vac itself....as is.

The CT22 and CT33 were originally made by Kraenzle.

Systainers are also used by Makita (note the new saw and rail  :) )
[attachimg=2]

Prebena (makes air compressors)

and yes, even DeWalt uses (or used) them.

try the fein.i have one,and it works great with the festool.

As for the stamps on German products, both West- and East-Germany were very proud at their products. They did their best to made it clear where the products were fabricated.
For West-Germany all their products were marked with "Made in West-Germany", even if it was made for the internal market. For East-Germany it was almost the same, their products were marked with "Made in the DDR" (DDR = Deutsche Demokratische Republik) or with "Made in the GDR" (GDR = German Democratic Republic).
Made in the DDR was to the Western world not a sign to rely on, a lot of products were shabby and sub-standard but very cheap.
Now they can use again their pre-war stamps, "Made in Germany". ;

Hi,

O.K. so we have two distinct discussions going on in this thread. Both of wich are interesting. Matt , anyway to seperate them for better usage on the forum?  If not perhaps I will edit the subject line to include both so that more will notice the systainer topic and join in.

So is Festool making product for Makita or are they headed for court over patents ! ?

Those DW systainers (and others) are neat. I have been a DeWalt owner/ buyer for a long time but never saw them.  Were they for drills.

Semenza,
I can split this into two topics.  Since it's your discussion, I'll let you decide!
Tell me which post # to split it at and I'll do it.
Thanks,
Matthew

Hi,

That compressor in a systainer is cool! I was looking for other systainer stuff on the net last night and saw some other items on the Tanos / Gardena website. Adjustable plastic deviders , and a couple shots of other style systainers.  www.gardena.com

Looks like number thirteen would be the best devide (thirteen for the first post on seperate thread) , unless you can actually sort them? If you think a devide will be too confusing let me know, but I think this systainer part might really take off. How about calling the new thread  Systainer Variations  ?  Also the turbo brush pics and all the systainer pics would be great to add to the gallery!

the systainer is made by someone else.they are very popular in Europe.more tool company are starting to use them.dewalt power tool over in Europe is somewhat different than here in the states.they have tools that we never seen here, and they are most likely to use the systainers for their tools now(in Europe)so is metabo and some other tools company.

Seth, where did you find a systainer on www.gardena.com? I can't find it anywhere?

Actually its-  www.gardena.com.au/systainer  then double ckick the  enter banner.

Seth, try Kofferfunshop.  Under Categories on the left of the page, click Systainers.  I think he carries the full line.

To avoid heartbreak, look at minimum shipping charges to North America first.

Ned

Wow, that place has them all. Shipping is not bad if you buy 15 -20 systainers. Course that about $700- $800 worth.

Seth

I hope Dewalt don't carry on using Systainers wouldn't want the Systainer name to be lowered. lol :D ;D
