Systainers and inserts

...I'd also like more variety of inserts for the Sortainers and Systainers.  ...  So I remove all of the hardware and clamp components from the MFT, and look for a place to store them - preferably in a Sortainer or Systainer.  But none of the Sortainers excepting the 4-drawer model will hold these parts and the clamping elements because the black hand screw knobs are too large to fit the depth of the drawers in all of the other units.  But even the 4-drawer Sortainer cannot accomodate many of these components in an organized manner - many will only fit in the single large bottom drawer.  Absent an alternative from Festool,...

Dave, the actual manufacturer of Systainers is Tanos (www.tanos.de), a sister company of Festool.  Tanos makes a much wider variety in the Systainer sytem than Festool offers, not only additional configurations, but also a wide variety of color combinations.

Tanos makes a 5-drawer model identical to the 4-drawer you know with an additional big drawer for a total height of a Sys 4.  That unit, together with a Sys 3 with tool inserts on top, forms my MFT support unit.

One German dealer who will ship to North America is www.Kofferfunshop.com.  Klaus has been very helpful.  Paypal works well.  One warning--the minimum shipping charges and the weight/price ratio of these goods make placing a large order your best bet.

Thanks, Ned.  I'll probably try making my own insert trays to fit a Systainer 4 or 5, unless I get an opportunity to purchase a unit when next in Germany and bring it home as extra luggage.  It could be my new "industrial strength" briefcase until it gets back home and through US Customs.

The top box in the stack is a SYS-3.  The bottom one is a 5-drawer Sortainer as I described at the top of this thread.

Festool makes systainers that have diced foam for customization.

Both the insert and the lid panel are Tanos products [acronym=Not Available In North America]NAINA[/acronym].

I've found the insert useful.  As you can see, it's got 6 clamps neatly stored along with a bunch of other stuff, and there's room in the SYS-3 for a bunch of stuff on top of the bottom layer.  Yes, I can close the lid.  The longer 300 clamps are stored in one of the large drawers.

The lid panel suffers from the same problem that the wood tool insert does:  it seems to be sized precisely for German tools.  While I'm using it, it's less satisfying than the bottom insert.

While the insert will fit any standard Systainer, IMO the SYS-4 is too deep for this use.

I also really like the Sortainer with 2 large drawers, NAINA again.  IMO, if it were offered in North America alongside the one with a single large drawer, you'd practically always prefer the 2-drawer one.  I know I would.
