Systainers and Sortainers or Mechanics tool box

So as of right now I work out of my two car garage with one side is my wife's car.  And I am wondering should I slowly phase out my mechanics style tool box which of course holds my wrenches and pliers and other stuff (I have moved my metric sockets into my 9 drawer sortainer to see if I like it) or should I go to a Sortainer/Systainer setup with a much smaller foot print?  Of course the larger items can fit in Systainers and or the 4 drawer Sortainer.  But at the sametime I wonder if it really is convenient to have a huge stack or Systainers trying to locate some item I need?

What are peoples thoughts on this situation?

In my opinion, I think a systainer system is not for you.  It sounds like you are working out of your shop, and not moving from site to site.  The systainers are great from a mobility/portability standpoint.  But when working in a set location there are better options, such as the standing tool chest as you mentioned.

I happen to like the big mechanics boxes with multiple drawers because I know what is where, and there is no digging or dismantling of a stack of systainers to get to any specific tool.

In the end, see what works for you, try a couple systainers for a while and think about if a systainer only system would truly work for you.

I love my mechanical style tool box.  I lined it with the fastcap foam  so every thing  has its own place.

I have a 12 drawer sortainer  on the way and I will use that for my screws.

there is a reason mechanics are using mechanics chests,all
my stuff wouldn't even begin to fit as efficiently in many more cubic ft of systainers and then getting in to them,no way.abs with the weight of steel, no way.look at how heavy just a few clamps in #1the sys is, nothing will hold tools better than a tool box

additionally what about all the 2,3,4ft stuff?

As much as love the Tanos line , like the others I think that the mechanics  set up may be a better fit for your use. Unless you can go all  Sortainers ( no unstacking) in one tall stack  to make a real small footprint. Or a real tall stack that gets split into two or three when in use. That could be worth it if the floor space is critical. Or if in some way the Sortainers would integrate into the rest of your Systainered tools space wise.

Systainers for festool sanders, jig saw, saws accessories, screws for woodworking install stuff. Home made boxes sustainer size for spray gun amd other things, all stored in homemade sustainer ports.
