I have only used my new T 18 a couple of times in the last month working on set building at my local community theater. It seems to me that my 10 year old Dewalt18 v has more power to drive screws into old, hard 2x4 s. The T 18 is set to maximum and is set on the screw icon. Am I missing something? Is this just how the T 18 performs or maybe I have a poor unit that could be repaired. I just checked and it seems that tomorrow is day 31. [sad]

Yes, switch it to drill mode. The screw mode engages the clutch. Drill mode disables the clutch and will show you its true power.

Jimbo, did Shanes suggestion work for you?  I just bought the T-18 and have drilled some large holes with the ZOBO bits in hard maple without any issues, are you happy now?

Somehow I missed Shane's reply. I will try the suggestion and see what happens. I have used the T18 lately and it has been fine, then I have not really pushed it.

Many batt drills are better on drill setting for heavy duty driving; batten screws for example. This certainly applies to my two 18v3amp Makitas and 18v1.5 amp Metabo. Even after pre drilling.

ive had a few dewalt cordless drills all the real old 18v stuff. the same shape as the old elu drills were. i now use a aeg drill and a makita 18v li ion drill. i only ever use the screw setting on any of em if i had to be carefull not to put a screw in too deep.
