I had an opportunity to help some young impecunious friends with building them a table with two benches. I was provided a photo of a table & benches she liked. I modified  the design to fit my abilities and launched the project with a delivery of beautiful Sapele boards ranging from 8 to 10 wide and all about 13’ long. All the boards were high quality with being straight and flat. They came from Carlson Fine Woods in Atlanta. Nice people.

I managed to cobble the boards together and the units were delivered Thursday. Our sweet young couple loved the pieces.

I’ll add photos in the morning.

Here is a photo go the pieces in our young friends' home.

Giving away my work gives me incredible pleasure. It doesn’t matter if it’s a little box or a big piece of furniture, it still is a pleasure.

well done ,  beautiful.

Im sure they will enjoy it for years to come

The table top is being brought back to my shop.

After my young friends took the furniture home, I placed a glass full of ice and water on piece of scrap I had coated with the wipe-on poly I used on everything. Darn! It left white rings. I thought the wipe-on poly would have been impervious to water stains.

With the help of a kind FOG member, I selected a marine varnish he recommended. It passed the ice water glass test.

The table top will get a coat of the marine varnish today.

I should have done this test well before finishing the whole project with an inappropriate product.

Next time.......
