Tanos vs. systainers

So, my festool collection is growing, and I have to admit I like the functionality of systainers. I am confused though, about the difference between Tanos and systainers. It seems they are fully compatible with each other, and that tanos may be slightly more affordable.

What are the advantages of the tanos containers versus festool systainers from your point of view?

TTS Tooltechnic Systems is a company based in Germany.
They invented the Systainer and produce it for themselves and as an OEM for others.
They also own Festool, SawStop, Shaper, Tanos.

So Tanos and Festool systainers are similar.  They have color difference and different molding for the logos.

The Festool branded systainers had a stiffening rail between the hinges on the larger sizes(SYS3-5?), the Tanos branded systainers don't have this by default, but it can be added.

Also the Festool systainers have an insert specific to accomodate the tool and accessories.

There is a wide variety of inserts and accessories for systainers - T-Loc and Classic, and the new Systainer3.  The elements are interchangeable within the family, though some accessories better fit in a SYS-4 than a SYS-1, for example.

If you buy a Festool tool, it comes in a Festool systainer, if you buy some other Festool products, they come in Festool systainer.  If you need matching containers for your other tools and objects, you buy Tanos branded systainers.  To make it "match" the brand of other tools, you buy color matching t-lock knob for them (it makes a huge difference over blue).  If you want to make a Tanos unit look Festool, you are out of luck because you can't buy that color t-lock knob.

There isn't much reason to buy a festool branded systainer (empty) other than to match other festool tools and accessories.

Other companies like Mafell sell their stuff in systainers too.

For all my non-Festools i just get the Tanos version.

I usually "brand" them, and i'll just rough up handles, latches etc with 220 sandpaper, and spray paint them; Tough to buy a pre-colored one for $10+-, and have it sit in a drawer. They also do not, to my knowledge, sell different colors for handle latches on any of the sortainers, old and new, so i just rattle can em, and it works great.

Whoa, how did you get the logos on top? Custom vinyl stickers or something? They look very nice.

I understand that Systainers were invented by Festool.
They wanted to sell them to other companies and fight against the box system from Bosch, but there was a problem: many of their potential big clients were their competitors (Makita, Metabo, Mafell...) for the tool market.
(Bosch was having other companies (e.g. Stihl) use its box system, but they were producing non-competing tooIs (e.g. chainsaws for Stihl)).

So they created a mother, umbrella company, under which they placed Festool for the tools and Tanos for the systainers, independent from each other.

Tanos designs and produces systainers, incl. customized ones, e.g. for Festool, for Metabo ( Metaloc, Metabox, ) etc.
Tanos does outsource the factory production to the German Gardena company.

I see here an illustration of the independence of Festool and Tanos:
Years ago, the Dutch shop Gereedschappro got blacklisted by Festool, no longer receiving tools from them to sell. However they have gone on ordering and selling products by Tanos, incl. Festool systainers.

The parallel market for Systainers has been there since forever.

In the past it was official dealers re-selling Systainers in bulk.

I really like your idea. The majority of my tools are Makita, because I bought a few of the Sys3 organizers, I am considering matching them with Sys3 (to match my OCD) I also like the painting of the T-loc in RAL5021
