Hi!

Yeah, but Snap-On's aren't gearless. To my knowledge Snap-On only has the F-Zero gearless ratchet(s).

Kind regards,
Oliver

I know that :) I have two classic and two soft grip. But the one the OP is talking about you hear nothing - no toothed elements. At least that is my understanding of gearless in this context? I still could be wrong though?

Kind regards,
Oliver

Ratcheting is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't ratchet but turns silently. My understanding is that it's alien technology harnessed by Bluebirds and Angels. Could be wrong but that's never happened before. Colour looks good too!

Ah! Who needs silence when you can hear German Technology at work!  [smile]

When I saw the title of the thread I thought it might be a mispost from the General Friendly Chat subforum, and was expecting either something serious like "....for Ice Hockey" or "....for all of the SNL comedians" or, something sarcastic like: "....for Justin Bieber" or "....for Alanis Morisette"

Exactly!  If you can't hear something happening, it must not be happening.  It's in the same category as unicorn farts and the like...  [big grin]

lol. Ok, I get it now :)

Kind regards,
Oliver

I have 4 of the SnapOn ratcheting screwdrivers.

Have had to replace two of them, both old style and new style (replaceable shaft) as the ratchet was skipping.  Fortunately they offer lifetime warranty and no questions!

Lee Valley sells the one shown at the bottom of the OP's photo.  They're designed by a BC company - did you know that?

Not only designed but made by them! Very impressed, well made and great feel to them.

I am not sure what is the sound of silence is exactly, but in the song the "sound of silence" ... They sing, "The vision planted in my brain still remains".
The unicorns also reside there with Santa around a campfire like a Mel Brooks scene.

I've always suspected that the silent "ratchet" drivers use 2 oppositely positioned one-way roller bearings.
Don't know if that is actually the case but I have drivers that are decades old that function similarly (silently) to the Rolgear. One is an Xcelite handle that is excellent and the other is some no-name thing that slips under moderately high torque.

The Rolgear looks nice.

Forgot to add; this is a simple explanation of how one-way roller bearings work
