Hi as above I'm looking to purchase a new sander for sanding drywall please could you recommend the best model?

Many thanks for your help with this. [big grin]

I've removed the poll and added the question to the opening post.

High end you're obviously looking at the PLANEX if it meets your budget. It's purpose built for large surface plasterboard / drywall sanding.

I use the ETS150/5 (the /3 does jus as good a job in this application) on walls and ceilings with no problem. ROTEX sanders can do the same job, but you'll be swinging a lot more weight about.

Nooks and crannies either the DTS400 or RTS400 depending on what other utility the shapes offer.

The LS130 profile sander could meet specific applications where you have awkward shapes, inner and outer corners etc, but I still haven't used mine for that purpose as yet.

Like Kev suggested, the PLANEX is our only drywall sander for doing whole rooms. It has a 225mm pad size. You can learn more about it at http://sanderfordrywall.com or at:

For smaller patch work, I always suggest the DTS 400 or RTS 400. They are able to get into corners whereas a round pad sander cannot. Here's a link to those sanders on the Festool UK site:

I'm going to move this thread to the general Festool Tools section of the forum so you can get more feedback from our other forum members.

WOW [eek] that Planex is amazing I would even go as far as saying beautiful not sure if that is the correct word to use for a tool but I was really blown away by this.

Thanks for all youre reply's to my questions guys this has been a great help, I very rarely carry out any sanding of any material at work due to working lightweight laminated furniture board as we manufacture interiors for motorhomes, so the sander will be simply be used for home and workshop improvements so I am leaning towards the ETS150/3 or 150/5 priced at £310 at Axminster power tools.  [big grin]

We did a Prep to Finish workshop today with vocational/technical students who are in the midst of a full gut remodel.

Planex all day long. It really is a pretty amazing tool in conjunction with the CT36AC.

I just wish that the Planex was available before I did the last two drywall jobs or I would have one right now.  If I ever do another drywall job (for myself or family) I will buy the Planex.

What's amazing about it is the control.  You can feather edges smooth so fast that if you're doing a medium to large drywall job, just get it, it will save you soooo much time.  I don't hesitate now to leave a thicker messier surface, the planex will take it down in seconds. Also the way the suction holds the sander to the ceiling, you arms will thank you every morning.

For the speed it works at, and the sheer volume of sanding it does, the dust collection is astounding.

Oh jeez, yes I forgot to mention the dust, good point Scott.  The dust collection is really a thing to marvel. Combine the planex with an AC36 and the UDD and you have the best drywall setup known to man.

I've been lurking on this site for while, and now this is my first official post.
I'm doing a small drywall project, and after reading the ETS 150 could be used for drywall sanding I hooked it up and gave it a whirl. It works great, with pretty good dust collection, however I'm yet to try sanding a ceiling. I also have a DTS 400, and it didn't work as well, so I still used a corner sanding sponge.

I also want to add that the knowledge sharing on this forum is excellent. I'm looking forward  to purchasing additional Festool pieces.
