Bearing in mind the new DeWalt TrackSaw, Festool USA has rather cheekily registered the domain www.tracksaw.com and this now contains details of the Festool guiderail system:

The Complete Online Guide to Plunge Cut Saws & Guide Rails and the 14-page
The Complete PDF Guide to Plunge Cut Saws & Guide Rails (aka Understanding Plunge Cut Saws & Guide Rail Systems)

Although the website may not contain much new information for the more experienced FOG members here, it should give a good background to those who are new to the Festool guiderail system.

I suspect that DeWalt might be kicking themselves at missing out on that domain name!

Cheekey, indeed! Go Festool! That was a smart move, done expeditiously.
Oh... I mean "Faster. Smarter."
Forrest, I think you're right about DeWalt... somebody there is goin' "Oops. Crap."

And the tracksaw.com site is coming up at the the top of a Google search for "track saw" or "track saws".
(Although not for "tracksaw" or "tracksaws".)
If somebody from Festool is reading this, I suggest they go grab tracksaws.com, as well.

Turbo,

Festool registered tracksaw.com in 12/07. They registered track-saw.com in 11/08.

Dino from Eureka Zone registered tracksaws.com in late November 2008.

It's a very common tactic when registering a domain to register everything around it, then redirect those url's to your main domain.

For example; no one has registered tracksawonline.com, tracksaw.org, etc. Costs peanuts. Festool missed tracksaws, they should snatch up everything around it.

tracksaw.ca.

Dan the new Festool rep in Canada, are you out there?

I do not get any Dino site when I enter www.tracksaws.com into Mozilla Firefox browser.

This is what results.

In contrast, the Festool tracksaw site works as stated in the earlier posts to this thread.

Dave,

He just registered it on 11/29. He currently has it parked as an ad revenue generator through GoDaddy. If I wasn't traveling this week I'd look up his traffic stats.
Sites like this don't get much search engine play because they lack relevant content and are mostly all ads.  In my opinion, he would be much better served redirecting hits on this URL to his main EZ site.

Wouldn't surprise me if he looked into tracksaw.com and saw Festool had registered it. Also wouldn't surprise me if either Dino or Festool registers the url's I mentioned above within the next 48 hours.

Remember that the ez system is universal.
At the ez forum, Dino posted that eurekazone is going to make universal track saw systems and accesories.
One stop shopping for all the track saws users. From guide rails to universal squares, repeaters, clamps and router kits.
Even universal ez powerbenches. If Festool and Dewalt are "borrowing" ez ideas the right answer for eurekazone is to make better rails and accesories at lower prices. I think Dino is getting setup and ready for his move.
The new eurekazone factory is almost ready for high production and new tools...according to the posts at the ez forum.
Good for all of us.

I had all the EZ stuff at one point and I liked it. I never had a big issue with the "this vs that" business that tends to go on.

I always liked him and got along with him just fine. He always answered me really quick and shipping was fast. He did say once he would send me some stuff free, he did not, but no big deal I really did not think he would anyway.

Dino is always honest to a fault , which I think is what causes some issues for him.

In the end the EZ stuff works and for the most part is cheaper so I agree it may be helpful.

Jorj,

What you posted may be true, and should benefits all consumers interested in track saws and accessories for them.  However, there are other factors that influence what others can legally do: patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade dress to name the most important of such intellectual property rights.  Domain name registrations and rights are also influenced by the existence of trademarks.  FestoolUSA's parent company holds active patents on many of their products as well as copyrights and trademarks.  Domain name registration is admittedly more loosely administered, but there is some order and more legal development and cooperation amongst nations and registrars to address conflicts.  If a person tries to register a term such as McXxxxx or MaXxxxx that is the same as or close to a trademark of McDonald's Corporation, they are very likely to get into a legal fight.  Sometimes the more established company buys out the opportunist, but sometimes they fight.  The more prominently and widely known the marks and company names, the more likely they are to win any such disputes.  Dino is of course, free to patent what he has invented and authored, too.  If I was a machinest, or had a friend who was, I'd probably be offering some accessories myself, and probably would have been making other products for cars years ago.

When I first found Festool's www.tracksaw.com website, I don't remember seeing the following comparison of the Festool TS55 and TS75 saws with the "competition".

Festool__Tracksaw_Comparison.jpg

Given the yellow type and icons, and the fact that that Competitor 2 is a battery-operated tracksaw, I suspect that Competitors 1 and 2 are from the DeWalt stable (since only DeWalt has a cordless tracksaw) at the moment.

This was a full page ad in the most recent Wood magazine, looks like they're trying to really promote the improvements of the Festool system.

Yes indeed. There is also a full-page advert (the same one as you saw?) on the back page of the Feb 2009 edition of Woodworker's Journal, available on-line.

Got it!!! Will most likely re link it to my www.ultimatetools.ca site once the website designer has finished with the upgrades.

I have been very busy and my time on the forum has been quite limited. Hopefully that will change in the near future and I'll be able to participate more!

Good job Dan.

In an earlier post in this thread, I mentioned companies registering  URL's similar to their competition, then redirecting that URL to their main site.

Check this out;  www.festoolowners.com

I would think Festool would want to own that.
