Meet the Douglas. This is the dresser in my new bedroom collection. I don't have the mirror or the vase that sets in the top finished yet, but I was all jazzed up to post a picture of it so here it is. The base is made from 8/4 maple and has oodles of dominos in it for strength. When designing it I first wanted a mid century look but I also enjoy the queen anne and Maloof styles as well. The base has an outline of an ogee foot and the cabinet has inset drawers like Maloof would have built. The walnut drawer fronts are actually one continuous board cut into 9 pieces. I decided to round over the majority of the cabinet giving it the variation of soft and hard lines. As for the hardware I used Blum BluMotion glides for the drawers (which I really liked) and some nickel retro knobs from Leevalley. Finished with 4 coats of Maloof oil and 1 coat of Orange Wax. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite pieces to build mainly because I used virtually all of my festool tools in the process (and believe me I have a lot of festool).
