Meet the Douglas. This is the dresser in my new bedroom collection. I don't have the mirror or the vase that sets in the top finished yet, but I was all jazzed up to post a picture of it so here it is. The base is made from 8/4 maple and has oodles of dominos in it for strength. When designing it I first wanted a mid century look but I also enjoy the queen anne and Maloof styles as well. The base has an outline of an ogee foot and the cabinet has inset drawers like Maloof would have built. The walnut drawer fronts are actually one continuous board cut into 9 pieces. I decided to round over the majority of the cabinet giving it the variation of soft and hard lines. As for the hardware I used Blum BluMotion glides for the drawers (which I really liked) and some nickel retro knobs from Leevalley. Finished with 4 coats of Maloof oil and 1 coat of Orange Wax.    I can honestly say this is one of my favorite pieces to build mainly because I used virtually all of my festool tools in the process (and believe me I have a lot of festool).

Once again excellent craftsmanship and design interpretation. I like it.

Great design, really love the combo of woods and clean jointers, especially the inset drawer faces.

Also intrigued by the wall in the background. Solid quarried sandstone? Somewhere in the southwest?

I can see this being a big hit!  It's quite attractive, do you anticipate folks being hesitant with the cantilever?  It's a great look.

Are the drawers dovetailed?  I would like to see their detail.  Beautiful piece!  Bill

Richard- The stone is from a house on our ranch. In hodgeman county there was several limestone quarries a long time ago. most people built fence with limestone posts (most of that is gone now) but a few settlers built houses with the stuff. This particular house has 3 foot thick limestone walls. It was hit by a tornado in like the 80's and it just took the roof off.

rob- the top of this particular dresser will have a vase set in it. thats the reason for the overhang. It is very strong I dominoed it and breadboarded it. the dresser also has a wall hung mirror thats like 3' by 6'.

Bill- the drawers are actually dominoed. usually I hand cut dovetail all my drawers but I was having a brain fart trying to figure out the drawer glides so I just punched them all together. I actually used a total of 214 dominos of various sizes to build this.

I would very much like to see the completed piece.  I aspire to design something that fantastic!  The cabinetmaking looks spot on as well which makes you a talented man [thumbs up]
