The Great MFT Debate!

Hey folks,

By now you've heard that Festool USA is out of their multi-function tables and will only have a small order in early '08 before they're discontinued entirely for the newer model (for which details have yet to be released).

McFeely's has a few dozen of the MFT 1080 actually in stock. Oddly enough, we used to drop-ship these but had to stock them because they're in packages with the saws and our computer system choked on the prospect of a package having one stock item and one drop-ship item.

In any case, our computer system choke is to your benefit if you'd like one of these because, despite the sudden and previously unannounced discontinuation, they're here while supplies last.

Hope that helps!

The title of this thread practically guarantees a good show. You know we've had these in Australia for like four or five years right?

I'm just keeeding...

I'm glad Festool continues on their path of continuous improvement.  I've got a 1996 Festo catalog that shows the pre-MFT workstand.  The MFT was a great leap forward.  I'm eager to see what Festool thought up for the MFT3.

A decade is a good run for a product.

I doubt things like the simple clamps won't fit the new MFT3.  I expect that the guides will attach in the same fashion, so those will work too.  And I expect the holes to remain 20mm on 96x96 centers.  And  perhaps next spring you can quote me and have a good laugh...

As for joining MFTs, old and new--no worries.  There will be enough guys who want to upgrade to MFT3s that a secondary market for the old MFTs will be adequately supplied.  And it seems there will be enough demand that prices (from the seller's point of view) will hold up for while.

I was thinking about an MFT 800 to add to my 1080.  Now, that's on hold.  If the MFT3 is attractive enough, the old one will be put to other uses.

One interesting thing to note is that the Kapex set currently includes an MFT800.

Yeah, but that's just for you guys on the the other side of the world. Over here we'll get the new and improved version along with the Kapex. Hey, we have to get some kind of benefit from being behind a year, don't we?

There you go Lou, finding that 'silver lining' again!

Who knows, maybe you'll (INA) get the new MFT first? That would be something completely different.

You are a naughty boy, Steve.  Festool dealers are supposed to be registered here as dealers, so your name comes up in Festool green.
