I built this bench/ cabinet out of highly figured bubinga and maple. The cabinet is for keys and mail and whatnot. There is a 8 x 8 drawer for keys also. I included a wine rack because well,, why not. Finally, the seat was added so you have a place to sit while putting on your shoes.

All the joinery was done with a domino just to see how fast I could build the thing. I finished it with 3 coats of Maloof oil.

First, [welcome] to the FOG!

Great design and execution on the piece. I particularly like the 'old tractor seat' feature!

Welcome to the FOG. Usually I'm not a fan of the dark wood / light wood look but you pulled it off nicely IMHO. I like the floating upper and the groovy seat. An ad lib design?

Quite an opening post!  Love Bubinga!  Excellent execution.  Welcome to the FOG and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Thank you all! Yes Charlie that was my own design. I saw a picture of a mid century cado (i believe that is what it was called) and I thought I could make an interesting one to sit by our back door. The seat idea did actually come from an old tractor seat. We have some decrepit old tractor on our farm in the junk yard and I have always thought the seat was cool.

Thanks again

Zack
