The joys of Festool helicoil service

I had my domino mounted on a jig via the two 5mm screws in the base. As I unscrewed it the helicoil insert in the aluminium base came out with the screw.

Contacted Festool service Aust to see if they would send me a new helicoil as you can't replace one that has been used.

They agreed that the tool was still under warrenty and they would repair it. Their answer "Sorry we don't have any helicoils as we don't replace them. You will have to take it to a service centre and they will send it to us to replace the whole base assembly" seemed to be an expensive (to them) option.

Nearest service centre is 30Km away and I would lose the tool for some time, (currently using it), and have to recalibrate it on return.

Checked on ebay and I can get 10 helicoils delivered for US$4.08 without going anywhere.

BTW The helicoils used in the base of the domino are SS and very short. They come out very easily if you use SS screws as these tend to bind against the SS helicoil, so when I replace mine I think some loctite will be involved.

Just posting this for reference.
