I recently saw the Domino XL, and I was wondering how much I would use it.  I have the smaller Domino, but I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't actually used it yet.  I bought it just before moving and only recently got it out of a box after bringing it here in a shipping container.

How does the largest size tenon in the 500 compare to the smallest in the 700?  Could I accomplish the same things with the 500 by using multiple tenons?  I know the short answer is no.  But I'm not likely to need the largest tenons that the XL can make.  I'm most likely to make things like beds or maybe large dressers.  I could see using table legs that are 4x4.  But for beds, i can see using 6x6 or even 8x8 bed posts.  Would the XL do me any good?

As an aside, for those of you who feel like festool is overpriced, I'd like to point something out.  I recently moved to Uruguay.  And there is a festool dealer in Montevideo.  But the prices are right at double what they are in the US.  [eek]  Glad I brought my festool with me.

Uruguay! I spend a lot of time in Punta Del Este, was there for Xmas and new years. Love that country. Got engaged on the pier of Punta about 7 years ago.

Not much advice to provide though. However I've found a lot of use for my regular domino and have projects in mind which the xl would really help with. Mainly some carriage doors, outdoor furniture and a bed. I may pick one up at some point...

Aside from making bigger mortises (14mm vs. 10 mm), the Domino XL can also make deeper mortises (70 mm vs. 28 mm).

It is a different animal altogether...

Tables, desks, benches, doors, beds, etc ... all could benefit from the 700XL.

Outside furniture if the profiles suit.

As Tom says, it's a different beast.
