The upper 2 floors are done.

Thanks for the kind replies.

The stain I used was Sherwin Williams brand. This was the same stain the original finisher used. I applied it with by hand with a foam pad.
I used satin Minwax polyurethane for the finish coats. I sprayed it at my shop with an Apollo HVLP sprayer. I believe the original finisher used a catalyzed finish of some sort on the trim & doors. I am not sure what they used on the stairway.

Thanks, Chris.

How do you deal with the tacky, slow-drying overspray that comes with spraying solvent-based polyurethane?  Some of your components had to be fairly large.  I don't have a proper spray booth, and don't spray polyurethane unless I can do it outside.  I do spray solvent base and water base shellac, vinyl sanding sealer, and lacquer inside using a simple box fan sucking through furnace filters to exhaust most of the overspray.  With those rapid drying materials, what overspray that does fall to the floor and elsewhere is in the form of dry, non-adherent particles that can be swept away.  When I sprayed Minwax PU varnish, the overspray particles remain tacky even after they fall where they are not wanted.

Wow Chris,
Beautiful work. It does have an "old time" look to it. Love the raised panels on the cubbard doors under the stairs. Really well proportioned.

Nice work. By the way, that is a very nice hall table? in one of your photos. The one I am referring to is the marble top with the turned center column and the ornate legs. Did you build it, and if so, what are the measurements of it and please post more photos of it.

Chris,

Very nice project.  I can imagine how much time you invested in design & layout spent.

In particular are the balusters.  Was that your design...?

I am thinking of using a design for my main stairway that is similar.

Thank you for sharing.
