anybody else going?

I am making plans for Friday, but depending on work, it may get pushed to Saturday.

well I will be dressed like my pic or call my cell  704 987 0374 when there and we can meet up.

Wish I could make it. I use to do trim work in the Gwinnett County area back in the late 80s. I'll see if any of my buds in the area are planning to attend.

I've gone to a couple of them over the last few years and they are definitely getting smaller.  The first one had both the local Woodcraft and Rockler.  Now, neither do it.  You can pretty much breeze through in an hour.  I did see my first sawstop demonstration 3 years ago.  It was pretty impressive.  Last year, there was a cabinet makers show that wasn't open to the public but my friends at the Woodcraft store slipped me a ticket.  It was much more interesting with some big time machines, a Minimax and Felder display among others.  Went home drooling after that one!  [tongue]

Thats a little far for me, but the same show will be in Reading, Pa. on March 6-8. I am going mostly to see the Kreg beaded face frame jig. I have a small kitchen job lined up, and if system works as well as they say, I'll buy it. I'am surprised that Festool will not be there.

Drive careful Kreg.  Gonna  be a little slick coming home!  Gotta watch all those relocated Yankees who think the laws of physics don't apply to them. [eek]  We don't need no stinkin' snow plows ;D

Boy, have you got that backwards!  The relocated Yankees are the only ones that know how to drive in the South when the weather goes awry.

I wait every winter for the video from the once-a-year storm that hits Dallas, Atlanta, etc.  It's the best entertainment on TV.  [big grin]

I can't speak for Dallas, but the snow we get in the Southeast usually has a pretty good sheet of ice under it.  It does a pretty good job of making fools out of the transplants.

They know how to drive on frozen dry snow in the North. We don't have frozen, dry snow in the south.  They expect roads to be scraped and properly treated.  We don't do it or halfway do it.

You should be on I-85 or 1/75  today heading north out of Atlanta at 5pm right as it starts coming down.  The cars with northern tags are the ones that will be in the ditch and stuck in the medians.  They think they're driving in snow...it turns to ice when it hits the warm pavement.  Us No-Drivin' Southerners just have to smile as we safely creep on by or just stay home when they close the schools early.  Gotta go with the flow.

Howard,
You are correct. Trade shows and the companies that have attended them in the past are a thing of the past now. ALL the major players at IWF and AWFS have pulled out permanently and now offer "Open Houses" or "One2Ones". These companies get a FAR better return on their miniscule expense of an open house versus the staggering expense of sending dozens of employees, trucks, hotel rooms, booth design and construction, shipping and down time. Stiles Machinery, Biesse America, Weinig, and soon others that I'm not at liberty to mention yet will be out of the trade show circuit.

The IWF is also coming to Atlanta, and this one is gonna be huge.  The current show is pretty small.  Neither Festool or Lie-Nielsen, a lot of the major manufactures were also absent: delta, powermatic, dewalt...  There were a lot of retail shops and individual engineers hacking their wares.

Hey Kreg,

Now I see it. Yes I know about the IWF in Atlanta, been there a few times. I was just confused about the link to the IWF and Taos saying that's a small show, but rereading it I see he was refering to the upcoming show.
Duh!

Hi Bob,
The IWF and sister show AWFS in Vegas (was in Anaheim) have been declining the last couple of years, naturally the economy has taken it's toll but aside from that most of the big players that draw the large attendance have been doing open houses and they have proven VERY successful for them in terms of their ROI. Why ship half your company and your tools/machines across the country and be located 300' from your biggest competitor when the salesmen/buyer ratio at an open house is 1:1 and you have your potential customers undivided attention.

Regards,
Spike
