Those of you with both the 1400 and the 1010 routers do you just go ahead and keep the 1/2" collet in the 1400 at all times since the 1010 only uses 1/4" and 8mm collets?

Yes sir!  I often leave my 1010 attached to my LR 32 plate, so I'll change collets as necessary if that's the situation!  I've been considering buying a 1010 just for the LR 32 so I can free up a 1010!  Sometimes I just want the lighter router but if I'm going to be drilling more pine holes, I'll just grab the 1400!

I own the MFK700 and the OF1010, both of which come with 1/4" and 8mm collects. The bits I use the most in the MFK700 are made by Festool with 8mm shanks. For the OF1010, Festool makes all the LR32 bits with 8mm shanks. However, here in the USA some popular shelf pins only come with 1/4" pins, and the most available brad point bottoming bit is made by CMT with a 1/4" shank. The OF1010 is also a marvelous router. All of the bits such as round-overs, within the range I use with a 1000 watt router have 1/4" shanks.

I do own an OF1400. It can safely use 1/4" shank bits, but since I also own so many OF1010 which can perform the same jobs, I keep the OF1400 in reserve for 1/2" shank bits not needing the power of the OF2200.

I own 2 OF2200, which I only use with large bits requiring that power. In my experience using bits smaller than 1/2" shank in a router more powerful than 1400 watts is not prudent. I assume this is why Festool does not ship the OF2200 with 1/4" and 8mm collects.
