Hi All-
So I decided I would finally sign up for this forum seeing as how I browse through everyday; turns out I had already created an account and forgotten all about it!
New around here anyways. I guess I'm at a point where I'm very aware of how much knowledge I've gained from others, and very happy to give back when I see an opportunity. If it weren't for talented old carpenters reaching out to me I'd be nowhere in this business.
I've been a self employed carpenter in NE Ct for twelve years now, mostly doing historic style work, but I'll take on just about anything that catches my fancy and pays the bills. I like variety and challenge, and prefer classic, graceful work.
Started in with Festools maybe five years ago after picking up a catalog at a tool store in Ireland. Now most everything I own is in a Systainer and my last few vehicles have been racked out to carry them easily. I really appreciate the mobility aspect and their ability to take a real beating and keep on giving back precise results. I've never been much for shelf queens...
Always looking for better ways to do things, and happy to blend 19th century handtools with modern engineering to get the outcomes I need. I do believe it's best to learn to do things the old way first, partly to know the traditions and how we have evolved, and so that one is never boxed in trying to make a machine perform a task that can often be done simply and gracefully by hand in an efficient manner.
That being said, this is a career and not a hobby, so I've put some serious bucks into Festool, and haven't regretted much.
Thanks for reading; hope to be of help to someone on here.
